I'm still obsessed with Scamble on Facebook.I waste entirely too much time playing. Wanna join me?

We went to the circus this weekend.  There was a little circus, Carson and Barnes, in town so we went. It was good, but not as good as Ringling Bros.  Just a small 3 ring.  I tried not to think about the potential animal cruelty and tiny cages the animals are kept in, and hoped that these animals are treated well. The kids had a blast and I did too!

Tonight I made a yummy dinner. Fish tacos, salad, and broiled asparagus. Everything in the salad was from our garden -- the lettuce, cilantro, beet, carrots, green onion. Mmmm... Yummy. We planted it all last fall. It grew through out the winter and has really taken off this spring. I love spring greens. The veggies taste sooo good, so earthy. Not like the ones in the grocery store. They all had a much deeper more complex flavor. I did have a weird reaction. After eating the raw beet, my throat began to swell. Like I had a bad sore throat. I could feel it all the way down. It scared me. I took a benadryll. It still hurts. I remember raw beets giving me that reaction, but never that bad. I could actually feel it swelling closed. Yikes! Fresh pineapple does the same thing to me. I wonder if cooked beets and cooked beet greens do it, too? Too bad. I do love beets. The one in question tonight was pretty - a chioggia beet. It has concentric red and white circles in its flesh. It is really really pretty. It tasted super sweet, juicy, and earthy. Mmmm...

My mother-in-law gave me some Amish Friendship bread starter. I've turned some of it into a regular sourdough starter and made a honey whole wheat sourdough bread last week. It was SOOOO delicious! I've got another batch working right now. Gonna try a new recipe and make more sourdough bread in the morning. The sponge is working right now on the counter. I'm having fun with it. Learning all about sourdough. Fun!

Everett is reading now. Real reading. Stuff I know he hasn't seen before. For example, the other day we were flipping through the onscreen tv guide and he said, "700 (pause) club. Mom, let's watch THAT!" To which I replied, "No thank you." He reads just about any word he sees. It is neat to watch. Seeing it click for him. He made a drawing on the computer the other day and typed it's title "EverettsMastrpes". Very cool.

We worked out in the yard today, pulling weeds, planting seeds in the garden. We got a lot done. I cut Michael and Everett's hair today. I did the best I had done so far. I really like their haircuts. It is fun to watch myself getting better at it.
