When one of my friends told me they were taking a trip away for the weekend it got me wanting a road trip. I looked up what places were around us and found San Antonio. It was only 4 hours away and had tons of historical things to do.
So we left Saturday morning. Got into downtown around lunch and started walking the River Walk. We found a place to eat for lunch (Rita's On The River) and it was neat. Then we cintues to walk along the river and took tons of pictures. Next we went and visited The Alamo. It was nice, but there were so many people there that it was hard to just soak it all in. Plus it was about 100 degrees (not joking) and we were outside all day. We also went and saw La Villita. It's like a little mexican town with shops. And we saw a little chapel and someone was getting married. It was cute. Then we walked around the streets downtown and made our way back to hte truck. After aobut an hour of searching for a place that wasn't sold out and was under $100, we found a hotel. Once we cooled off and relaxed a bit it was off to dinner. We went to the Speghetti Warehouse and that was really neat. It used to be an old warehouse and now it's an Italian resturant. They had all kinds of old signs and artwork and furniture. Plus it was HUGE. And the food was great too. Then I burned Emily's eyes with the hotel shampoo (forgetting it's not tearless like baby shampoo) and then we were off to bed.
Sunday morning we had breakfast at the hotel and then went to the San Antonio Zoo. That was so fun. It was another 100 degree day, but we tried to enjoy it. We ended up going back to the truck to get the double stroller because it was too hot to expect Ashlyn to walk around all day. There was so much to see and if tey would have been done constructing the new African section it would have been awesome. But it was still great because me and Ashlyn LOVE animals. We got to go into a butterfly exhibit and that was neat. Ashlyn was scared of them, but was still interested. After the zoo we went on a train ride around a huge park that was next to the zoo. That was really fun. Emily loved it and it was nice seeing her able to have fun and not just be in the stroller all day. After all that we decided to go ahead and head for home (since it was after 1pm) and find a place to eat on the way. Well, 2 1/2 hours later we stopped at Applebee's for lunch/dinner and that was good. There are no Applebee's near us in Texas City so it made it that much better.
So all in all we had a good weekend. And now that we know there is a Six Flags in San Antonio we're thinking of taking another trip there during the summer with Adrienne and Scott.
Oh, and the best part of the whole trip: EMILY TOOK HER FIRST STEP SATURDAY NIGHT IN THE HOTEL ROOM!!!! I'M SO PROUD OF HER. SHE'S FINALLY MAKING AN EFFORT TO WALK AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER!! GO EMILY!!!!!!
