"Several retail concern used this as a slogan from the early 20th century onward. In the USA it is particularly associated with Marshall Field's department store, Chicago (established in the late 19th century). The store is an icon of the city, although it is set to lose its name in 2006 when, following a takeover, it becomes renamed as Macy's. In the UK, Harry Gordon Selfridge (1857-1947) the founder of London's Selfridges store (opened in 1909), is credited with championing its use. The Wisconsin born Selfridge worked for Field from 1879 to 1901. Both men were dynamic and creative businessmen and it's highly likely that one of them coined the phrase, although we don't know which."

It comes closer to "supply and demand". The "customer is always right" because the more the customers buy something or requests something the more likely it's going to utilized. The sole goal for a business is making money, so the institution might go ahead with a particular idea. In this sense then yes, the customer is always right.
But here's my thing though... Please treat retail people with common courtesy! Definition of courtesy: Polite or CONSIDERATE behavior. Think about what your words or your body language are saying. A lot of customers think they can't get decent service, they're just going about it wrong! We are human, we can have a bad day too! There are a lot of times when you just engage with a retailer you will get above and beyond service! Simply asking how they're day is going, or giving them a compliment, or even a thank you! In some establishments TIPS!! Be calm, and patient. Don't shop somewhere when you need a particular item in next HOUR. Call ahead if you want to just go get your stuff and be out! Next time when you go in treat them how you would like to be treated, and LISTEN!! In those times when you don't get your way don't yell! They will give you a lot of information for the next time, so you might reach a amicable result.
Well, that being said and done. I'm going back to school, so i might upload some other stuff. I made some adjustments to some of the designs, so that'll go up soon. My mom is coming back from China. Yay!! And so I might be more free to some things!! Wish me luck!
Ciao!
