Author's Note: I absolutely don't remember where this story comes from. I think it's the image of the phoenix being reborn from the ashes that got stuck with me and started it all. Anyway, I believe it's the longest I've ever wrote in a one-shot! Thanks to poisonshades for pushing me into writing moar and also graciously correcting my mistakes.
