ok, so ive got a quick rant.
this is probably honestly a matter of pent up aggravation due to living in connecticut--the worst state in which i could have picked to dwell for seven months out of the year--amongst people who dress and act in ways in which i would never want, and have beliefs which i will never desire to have ...
... but here it is:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/27/sports/baseball/27sock.html?_r=1&oref=slogin ok, so i just talked to kerry about this article and he is apparently not as incensed as i am, but i dont even care because he gets to go to school fifteen minutes from his house and, yes, they have people from new york and connecticut and other places like that there but its NOTHING like here.
so in summation, the article is from the new york times and it says that there is speculation that the sock that curt schilling wore in the 2004 world series with blood on it might not really have blood on it.
what
the
hell?
i am sure, at this point, that it is inappropriate for me to be this pissed off about an article coming straight from new york city that portrays the sox in an unflattering, conniving, childlike way.
i am sure that press in the red sox nation would not hesitate to fixate on the many, MANY faults of the yankees who are--i might add--childlike and conniving, themselves.
hell, i was raised to think that way about the yankees and i can expect nothing but to have yankees fans raised the same way towards the red sox.
but at the same time, the red sox have such a special history and so much hardship that the yankees have never had.
and you know what?
no red sox fan would ever presume to suggest that a home run ball that babe ruth hit didnt really have his spit on it, or some rediculous thing like that.
and, let me tell you, curt schilling is as close to babe ruth as weve got.
and thats another thing thats special about us.
schilling, nixon, manny, ortiz, veritek, papelbon, crisp ...
all of our players are babe ruth.
even johnny damon.
especially him, while the hype lasted.
so its not like we have sunk to a silly and petty level like this.
by all means, be sore that we beat you five games to two.
by all means, raise your children to dislike us.
we sure as hell arent holding back in that department towards you.
but dont fabricate.
dont take a rediculous misunderstanding and make it worthy of the front of the sports section in the biggest american newspaper in print.
not just yankees fans read the new york times, obviously.
seeing as i read it.
ok, so im tired of this rant, now, and its getting rediculous and i dont want anyone to hate me for writing it.
its just gotten SO old, living here.
and i cant wait to move back.
thats not saying that some of the nicest people ive met here havent been from long island, westchester, connecticut, et cetera.
but i could never be truly at home and comfortable living in one of these states.
its just not me.
and i guess that its good that i found this out early in life.
and i know that ill probably have to live in new york--at least for a while--to be a journalist.
but i love the city.
its just the yankees.
and that stupid fucking anti-boston mentality.
and thats that.
i love where im from.
"that dirty water" is what we all have in our veins, i guess.
and the red sox are a huge chunk of what makes us, us.
so demeaning the team demeans me personally.
and i dont take insults well.
