Icons, etc.

Back with another icon-centric post. More experimentation in this post, which means a couple of icons turned out pretty well, and the rest...didn't. I usually shy away from creating icons with unnatural coloring. I almost always improve the lighting, maybe make a certain feature stand out a little more, and then call it a day. I'm really trying to break myself of that habit because, though it's quite helpful in editing my own photographs, it's not terribly conducive to interesting icons.

A couple of the icons show Mariska Hargitay displaying a cell phone case that reads "Joyful Heart". Joyful Heart Foundation is a nonprofit organization that she founded several years ago that works to help survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence heal and put their lives back together after the initial crisis stage. I work as a Victim Advocate with survivors of rape and sexual assault during that crisis stage, and I felt so thankful when I found out about JHF. Most advocates aren't trained to provide long term counseling, so we're rarely involved when a survivor is working to integrate the experience into his or her person. It's frequently a long, very difficult process, and I think it's great that there are resources available for people who need help.

And as for the banners... Well, I almost didn't post the Brennan one(s). I can hardly put words to how much I hate the way it turned out (HAH, I say that like I didn't have complete control over it), but ultimately I decided I wanted to put it here so I can look back at it later when I've improved and appreciate the work.
