"I still don't know that I'd say 'good' but definitely better.
"He talks more, and he's more . . . engaged, maybe, when he does. He seems more . . . settled, I think, is probably the best word. It's easier, for both of us, than it was when all this started."
And a moment later --
"Meg."
Michael's voice doesn't fill the room, but it carries a certain weight with it nonetheless.

And she stands up, when Michael comes into the room.
(It just . . . seems the thing to do.)
"Hello, Michael."

She takes up a position by the wall, leaning against it while she studies Meg.
"I didn't mean to wake you."

"You didn't. I wasn't asleep."

"I see. Considering that's the case, did you have a moment to talk?"

More than a moment, really.
Meg has nothing but free moments for the rest of the day, and even if she didn't, you make time for an archangel.

She moves away from the wall, reaching out to grab the desk chair and spinning it around so she can rest her arms on the back.
"How have you been keeping yourself lately?"

She shrugs. "I'm all right."

Michael rests her chin on her upraised arms, gaze fixed firmly on Meg.
"And Dean?"

"I still don't know that I'd say 'good' but definitely better.

"But from the looks of it 'easier' isn't close kin to 'easy'."

"I don't think 'easy' was ever an option, was it?"

She does not apologize for that. There would be no point.
