In some ways, the easiest part of Meg's day is the part that she expected to be the hardest. After all, it hasn't quite been a month since Dean didn't want her to look at him or come into his room, which hadn't exactly boded well

There's a knock at Meg's door, brisk and solid, followed by the slight creak of hinges as it opens.

And a moment later --

"Meg."

Michael's voice doesn't fill the room, but it carries a certain weight with it nonetheless.

She sits up at the sound of the knock.

And she stands up, when Michael comes into the room.

(It just . . . seems the thing to do.)

"Hello, Michael."

[theunsmiling]

"Feel free to sit," the archangel offers, stepping farther into the room before closing the door.

She takes up a position by the wall, leaning against it while she studies Meg.

"I didn't mean to wake you."

Meg sits on the edge of the bed, feet on the floor and shoulders squared.

"You didn't. I wasn't asleep."

[theunsmiling]

The noise Michael makes is carefully noncommittal.

"I see. Considering that's the case, did you have a moment to talk?"

[ever_noteful]

"Of course," Meg says.

More than a moment, really.

Meg has nothing but free moments for the rest of the day, and even if she didn't, you make time for an archangel.

[theunsmiling]

"Good."

She moves away from the wall, reaching out to grab the desk chair and spinning it around so she can rest her arms on the back.

"How have you been keeping yourself lately?"

[ever_noteful]

It's not, really, the question Meg was expecting.

She shrugs. "I'm all right."

[theunsmiling]

"Mmm."

Michael rests her chin on her upraised arms, gaze fixed firmly on Meg.

"And Dean?"

[ever_noteful]

"Better.

"I still don't know that I'd say 'good' but definitely better.

"He talks more, and he's more . . . engaged, maybe, when he does. He seems more . . . settled, I think, is probably the best word. It's easier, for both of us, than it was when all this started."

[theunsmiling]

"That's very good to hear," Michael says.

"But from the looks of it 'easier' isn't close kin to 'easy'."

[ever_noteful]

"He was in Hell.

"I don't think 'easy' was ever an option, was it?"

[theunsmiling]

"Not for him," Michael acknowledges.

"Or you, once you agreed to help."

She does not apologize for that. There would be no point.

[ever_noteful]

"And I knew that, when I said 'yes.'

"So, easier is at least better than harder.

"I guess by definition."

[theunsmiling]

"So I would think, as well," Michael inclines her head very slightly, though the rest of her body remains perfectly still.

"But perhaps the time has come to make things easier yet."

[ever_noteful]

"I . . . I don't think I understand."
