This Is Not How I Want To Be Forgotten (or: Ten Times Damon Doesn't Choose Stefan)
Damon+Stefan; Damon/Elena(/Stefan), Lexi/Stefan references, Damon/Lexi (IDEK) | ambiguous future setting | ~2600 words | R

Foraerintine andverdant_fire, both of whom I've owed Salvabros fic for several decades. Um. This is subtextual (but not really) homoerotic transference fic, I guess ( Read more... )

LOL WHAT. I DON'T EVEN LIKE THIS FIC THAT MUCH???

Why am I relating to this?

BECAUSE WE ARE BOTH DOOOOOOOOMED. ♥

I feel the urge to kick him. He never keeps his vows anyway.

<<<<<<<<<3333333333 I just so wanted to poke at the fact that as heartfelt and powerful as that scene was, it was also so terribly self-absorbed and indulgent. I mean, the dude even has the nerve to answer "right now, you're all I've got." UM? (lol the people I choose to be my favourites.)

AND I REFUSE TO READ GERMAN LITERATURE IN FRENCH. HOW DO I DEAL WITH LIFE. AND REALLY, WHY DO YOU EXIST? TO TORMENT ME, I KNOW.

YOUR EXTREME REACTIONS TO MY NONSENSE ARE UNWARRANTED, TBH.

Why did I picture a shiny coat? I am traumatized.

... Good? The more ludicrous, the better? IDEK.

YOU ARE AN AWFUL PERSON. MY HEART DOES NOT FUNCTION ANYMORE. EVERYTHING IS BLUE AND I HATE YOU.

Music to my ears. ♥

Whyyy doesn't Stefan want to see??? He is the worst.

who wouldn't want to see Damon make shapes with his cigar smoke though.

I'm aesthetically traumatized by the lack of space before your semicolon.

THERE'S SUPPOSED TO BE A SPACE THERE? WHY DID NO ONE (including my betas) TELL ME?

You didn't even give us glimpses of Damon spitefully picturing Stefan fantasizing+flagellating himself about this unfortunate mishap!!???? I NEED FILTH OKAY.

I WOULD NOT EVEN KNOW HOW, MAN. D: D: D: But I'm immensely tickled you find this scene hot. :D That will keep me going for a while.

UNWARRANTED?? You kid. You know how I feel about blue, romanticism and that also means moon and irony. YOU DO KNOW DON'T YOU? (cue fitting icon (it's a picture of Novalis' Heinrich von Ofterdingen manuscript - isn't it gorgeous? it is, it is.))

THIS WAS TO BE EXPECTED OKAY? OKAY.

There isn't. Yes, there is! At least not in English (or not that I know of?). In German, they don't do it either. BUT IT IS WRONG WRONG WRONG. It's just like the colon. WHY DO PEOPLE/COUNTRIES INSIST ON SKIPPING THAT ESSENTIAL GAP? I do not understand this, really. Which is why I so intently refuse to adapt myself and stubbornly cherish the space that makes all the fucking difference. (Sometimes, I wonder if this bothers people?) I think it has to do with me spending about an hour debating the importance of said gap (both for colon and semicolon) with non-French schooled people. Before, I didn't particularly care, but since then I haven't been able to compromise on the matter. But really, it might simply have to do with me being obsessed with visuals and balance... Idk. /ponctuation gives me intense feels

LOL, you pure soul you.

Well, I certainly do now. :o

Ahhhhhhhh, I see. I can feel your point. It would look quite all right with a space both before and after the semicolon. *strokes chin*

The book (cue book icon :p) I just finished is an illustration of the beginning of that manuscript, actually. So transcendance, flowers, blue, water, death&resurrection, (universal) Poetry, starcrossed lovers, tend to trigger strong reactions in me. (It's not my faaault, it's the emotional investment.)

I'm not sure if it makes that much sense, when you're not used to the space before the colon. Because when you are, there is a similitude between both (signfically and aesthetically) that justifies(?) this nitpicking. Basically, the semicolon separates quasi-autonom propositions inside one sentence. It's not a strong ponctuation per se, since the sentence goes on, but it's semi-strong? You have to pause for a second to consider the latest part, before you move on to the next phase of the sentence. So unlike the comma, which serves mostly for clarity and flow (even when there is a grammatical need for it), it's purpose is mainly structural (and also for clarity, in long&intricate sentence, obvs).A bit like the colon, which installs some weird kind of structural mirroring between two parts of one sentence, where second part is the consequence/illustration/whatever of the first, meaning that both are intrisically linked but also distinct. Obviously, they are still different ponctuations, which don't express the same thing (especially as far as balance is concerned), but you know, they have things in common ;) And aestetically I find that the idea of distinction, as well as ~mirroring (okay, this really isn't the right term.. but I can't come up with the proper one), is expressed a lot better with a symetric use of the blanks on each side.

O____o SO MUCH TIME I WASTE ON TRIVIAL GRAMMATICAL AESTHETICS... This is scary. Forgive my enthusiasm ♥

Ah. That makes sense (... somehow). Would it comfort you if I promise to do so from now on?

Your enthusiasm is a precious jewel.
