FANDOM MEME!

Tell me you want to play and I'll pick up to three of your fandoms (a list might be helpful). Then update your journal and answer the following questions:

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

litlover12 chose these for me: "Phantom", Jane Austen, and Audrey Hepburn.

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?

WISHBONE. I've been fascinated by the Phantom ever since I was a little girl watching that show.

(Here's the first of two videos that display the episode in full, if you're curious.)

Sure, it was silly and watered down for the kiddies, but the idea of a mysterious, brooding man living beneath an opera house and inspiring fear and awe in everyone still fascinated me. (The fact that my first name is Christine didn't hurt things, either.) I wanted to read the original book, but I wasn't old enough at that time. So while I waited to grow up, I let my imagination loose with the Phantom at the reins. It wasn't a conscious decision; it was like a natural development behind the scenes.

I think I was 17 or 18 by the time I saw the movie with Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum. The costumes and music combined swept me away, and even though I became a fan of Butler, Rossum, and Andrew Lloyd Webber after that, there was something lacking about the movie Phantom. He was a Phantom, but he wasn't my Phantom.

After watching the movie, I finally got around to reading the book. The same thing happened; I enjoyed it, but I was vaguely disappointed, because my expectations weren't reached. I liked my own interpretation of the Phantom better than anyone else's--even that of the original novelist!

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

One does not simply walk away from the Phantom.

3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?

The aforementioned movie. A fantastic treat from beginning to end.

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

Yes, I make graphics. I'd love to write fanfiction, but right now I'm trying to direct all my writing efforts to the book I'm writing.

5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Sure! Why not? The more people to appreciate good literature and music, the better!

JANE AUSTEN

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?

My Mom checking out the 1995 Pride and Prejudice from the library. She and Dad had watched it on PBS when it originally aired, back when I was too little to remember. She figured I would like it. I ended up becoming absolutely obsessed. THANK YOU MOM SO MUCH.

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

I will love and admire Jane Austen's wit, charm, and sympathy forever.

3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?

My favorite film adaptions are P&P 1995 and S&S 1995.

I can't possibly choose a favorite book or a favorite heroine, but from the countless quizzes I've taken and from my own instincts, I know the heroine I resemble most is Elinor Dashwood.

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

Yes. Graphics again. I'm terrified to write Austen fanfiction. Somehow, I get the feeling nobody can do her characters justice but her.

5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Yes, indeed! Austen can never receive too much applause.

AUDREY HEPBURN

1. What got you into this fandom in the first place?

I really can't remember. I'm not even sure which Hepburn movie I saw first. All I know is, I've always liked all things classy, chic, and sophisticated, so naturally Audrey Hepburn became one of my role models.

2. Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

Why would I ever get tired of a fandom like this? I think I can safely say that once I become a fan of something, I always remain a fan.

3. Favorite episodes/books/movies, etc?

Roman Holiday, My Fair Lady, and Sabrina.

4. Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

Yes. You never can have too many graphics!

5. Do you think more people should get into this fandom?

Yes, yes, and yes!
