Today was the last day of my service. Well, technically not, but the HR department wanted to get rid of those vacation days I still had left, so all there's left to do is to go and pick up the certificate of the accomplished civil service on the 15th, and then I'm officially a free man.
It does leave me a bit sad though. It's a pleasant workplace and a lot of good people I have to leave behind, but one has to move on eventually. C'est la vie, I guess.
Got a really heartwarming farewell, though. The folks at work even bought me
this.
A perfect gift for a headbanger, eh? Gets me all emotional.
Poem of the day:
I salute thee, the forefathers
in the bosom of the frozen land
who built all we now have
with blood, with sweat, by hand
I salute thee, the peacemakers
who gave all you ever had
to raise no fist against another
be they good or be they bad
I salute thee, the abandoned
who still abandon no other man
you exemplify the spirit of good
as only a few souls ever can
I salute thee, the hopeless
who still try to get things done
for as long as there is spirit
the tomorrow will never be gone
I salute thee, the poor among us
who struggle to just get by
for you know that hope is never
lost as long as one will try
I salute thee, the cowards
who still go on despite of fear
for the honest weakness is a mark
of a heart pure and ever sincere
But most of all I salute thee
the nameless heroes in the night
with no face, no fame, no thanks at all
you still strive to do what's right
