I don't understand this whole "reparations for slavery" movement. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not above offering an apology.
Yes, what my ancestors did to your ancestors was wrong and I am sorry it ever happened.
However, the key word in that sentence is ancestors. You weren't the one doing the work and I wasn't the one forcing you to do it. I don't understand how people feel that they are entitled to money or land over something that happened to an elder family member. This argument is the equivalent of my grandfather getting sick from eating at a restaurant and me suing the owner's son forty years later. It's 2008. Get over it.
I'm sure someone out there is reading this and is offended. I'd apologize, but I really don't care. Reparations are stupid, and if you'd like to present an argument in favor of them then I'd be more than happy to listen and keep an open mind. Just promise not to get pissed off when I remind you how stupid you sound arguing over shit that happened 150 years ago.
