Myabe it's because I minoring in special ed but I really don't get why people talk about disorders and disabilities that aren't even fatal like they are so terrible. Children with them are different technically but they shouldn't be viewed as this. It shouldn't be a sad event. The last thing I know most of them want is for people to "feel sorry" for them. I mean their disabilitiy may make things more difficult on the child but the child with the right support can lead a very happy and semi-normal life. For some reason it bothers me that you imply that this is something terrible that shouldn't happen to good people. Like disabled children are some kind of way of punishing bad people who want children. But really best case scenario it's probably better to happen to people who you say are so wondeful because she will get more support and unconditional love that way.

I mean yeah everybody want's a healthy baby. But just because the child is born with a disability doesn't mean their life is doomed to be an unhappy one. Nor should the parent love the child any less. The children I worked with in the special needs were some of the sweetest children ever. I loved working with them.

Now I could see saying unfornately the child was born with.... if it was something like tay-sachs where children all die between the ages of 2 and 4. Or even something like cystic fibrosis which ends up eventually killing the child.

So instead of talking about how unfortunate the child's disorder is. I'd would rather be congratulating her on the birth of her new daughter. :)
