Ryosuke and Mirai enter into a relationship filled with questions they are afraid to answer. The fact that Ryosuke loves Mirai and would want to make her happy but isn't sure if he could actually fulfill her dream of a tragic love story and Mirai loving him back yet can't simply let go of the silent wish she's always had.

“It’s okay, Mirai. It’s me, Yamada Ryosuke,” the person whispered into her ear and Mirai immediately calmed down.
After what seemed forever to Mirai, Ryosuke let her go and she pulled away from him, her cheeks flaring.
“Thank goodness I saw you running. Something bad might have happened,” Ryosuke said, sounding completely relieved. “If your mom heard about this, she’d probably get a heart attack ne?”
“Don’t tell her!” Mirai pleaded.
“If I told her, she’d probably give you like an hour-long lecture of safety,” Ryosuke joked and laughed.
“I’m gonna kill you if you tell her,” Mirai threatened. It sucked that he could always tell her mom anything since their parents were really close friends so more or less, growing up, Mirai kept stumbling upon him and for some reason, he always caught her doing something strange and added to that is that the two shared more secrets than they did with anyone else due to the fact that whenever their parents would have those really long dinners, they always ended up talking about everything and anything. And when it’s everything and anything, Mirai tended to keep accidentally slipping her secrets out of her mouth into his ears. As for Ryosuke’s secrets, Mirai simply listened to him. She never completely understood why he told her as much as he did but whenever she asked he’d simply smile impishly and tease her about whatever. They weren’t really childhood friends since they didn’t really play with each other ever day since they were kids or anything. They weren’t best friends either. They didn’t have a specific label to it really. The only connection they shared were the relationship of their parents, their secrets, and the fact that they were classmates. Simply that, no label whatsoever.
“Hai ,hai. Again one of your millions of secrets is safe with me,” he said in a heavy tone, placing his fist over his heart as if he were some general.
“You. Are. Such. A. Dork!” Mirai said, slapping his arm.
“Says the girl who does nothing but watch tragic dramas,” Ryosuke replied and smirked at her.
“At least I’m not seemingly gay who overly loves strawberries, wears a star necklace, and has his hair long!” Mirai countered. Ryosuke had always had that small silver star necklace since before. It was strange to her that he liked it so much.
“Hey, I cut my hair!”
“But still, it was long before. And besides, now with your short hair, you look more stupid than ever,” Mirai shot at him.
“You’re just too shy to admit you liked my old hairstyle before,” he replied confidently.
“Like I would even-,“ Mirai started but Ryosuke cut her off, pinching her cheek like he always did to shut her up.
“Putting that aside, are you really okay?” he asked her, his tone getting serious and worried.
“I’m fine!” Mirai snapped and brushed his hand off her face.
“That’s good,” Ryosuke said and Mirai couldn’t help but stare at his face, finding the genuine concern spread all across his features.
“AH!” Mirai suddenly yelled aloud. “I’m late!! I have to meet Kana!”
“Kana-baka?” Ryosuke said, his nickname for her.
“Yeah! I have to go. Arigatou, Ryosuke,” Mirai said in a rush as she tip-toed to kiss his cheek before she ran off.
Ryosuke watched her go, completely taken off guard by her kiss.
“Why the heck did I kiss him?!” Mirai asked herself frustratedly as she continued to run. Her body suddenly acted on her own, Mirai couldn’t understand it.

|| “Ah~Ryosuke, you cut your hair ne~?” Shida’s mom said in delight as she welcomed him, his mom and his father into her house.
“Hai,” Ryosuke replied.
“It suits you~,” she went on.
“Deshou~,” agreed Ryosuke’s mother as they all made their way to the dinning area like countless other times they’ve spent the evening in each other’s companies.
“Ma, Mirai doesn’t seem to think so,” Ryosuke said and chuckled.
“Mou, that girl. Well you know her, she’s always covering up the things she really wants to say.” Mirai’s mom said hopelessly. “Where is she anyway?”
“Mirai!” her dad called out.
“Ah, it’s okay. I’ll just go to her,” Ryosuke said and made his way up the stairs.
He stood in front of her door and knocked.
“Ne, Mirai, I’m coming in,” Ryosuke said when there was no reply and he opened the door. Her room was dark, not a single light was on.
“Mirai?” Ryosuke called out, easily finding the switch for the lights and turned it on since he’d been in her room so many times already.
As the lights illuminated the room Ryosuke saw Mirai on her bed, laying flat on her stomach, her laptop by her head.
“Geez,” Ryosuke said, sighing as he ran a hand through his hair. He went over to her closet and pulled out an extra blanket and placed it over her. Then something caught Ryosuke’s eye. There was a cut by the side of her hand.
Ryosuke knelt by the side of her bed to take a closer look at it. It was probably from earlier. It was about an inch and a half long and the bleeding had stopped. It was nothing more than a slight graze,, nothing too serious but Ryosuke still had the urge to tend to it.
“Stupid girl. She completely forgot she had an injury,” Ryosuke said and sighed again, standing up to get the first aid kit in her bathroom. He knelt once again and began tending to her wound. He wasn’t even worried of waking her up. She was a heavy sleeper. If their parents downstairs would begin screaming, she wouldn’t even wake up.
When he was done he took a manga from her shelf and began reading it, waiting for her to wake up. Ryosuke chuckled as he was half-way into the story. It was about a tragic love no less.
“How dare you laugh at my precious manga,” Mirai reprimanded and Ryosuke raised his head from the manga to look at her and smirked.
“You’re finally awake, you sloth,” he teased.
“Shut up,” she said and noticed the bandage on her hand.
“You should be more careful,” Ryosuke advised as he stood up, returning the manga.
“Arigatou…,” Mirai murmured.
“What was that? I didn’t hear you,” Ryosuke teased, his smirk getting wider.
“I said ‘arigatou’!” Mirai said louder, pouting as she threw a pillow at him.
“Hai hai, doitshimashite!” Ryosuke said, laughing as he raised his hands in defence.
“Wanna go up to the roof?” he asked her.
“Sure,” Mirai said and they went out through her window, making themselves comfortable on the roof. It was where they usually hung out when their parents went on and on downstairs.
“Ne, I’m sorry…,” Mirai said, hugging her knees.
“About?” Ryosuke asked, stretching his legs in front of him putting his weight on his palms that were flat down on the roof, leaning back.
“For a lot of things,” Mirai continued.
“What’s with you? Suddenly so serious~!” Ryosuke said and chuckled.
“I am! I just wanna say it…you’re always taking care of me,” Mirai said.
“I’m used to it,” Ryosuke told her. Being a boy, not being able to say he actually enjoyed taking care of her.
“Don’t you think tragic romances are wonderful? I really wish mine would be like that…,” Mirai said after a while and Ryosuke once again saw that dreamy smile on her face which made him feel special. She only showed that kind of smile to him, he knew it. This was the side of her not many people know. Most of them know her fan girly and hyper side but this was her soft and serious side, when she got really passionate and deep. It was enjoyable to him.
“You’re really hoping for that, huh?” Ryosuke said and smiled to himself. “I remember when you first told me that years ago.”
“Only you and Kana know,” Mirai said.
“I was first,” Ryosuke murmured bitterly. He didn’t like the fact that Kana knew a secret of Mirai’s. Anyway, he knew about a million more than she did.
“What?” Mirai asked him.
“Nothing. Explain to me again why you love these romances so much?” he asked.
“Are you sure? You’re not sick of me always babbling about it? You’re not getting tired of hearing the same words over and over again?” Mirai asked in return.
“I’d never get tired of it. Go ahead, or else who else will you babble it to? I’m the only one that can handle such babbling,” Ryosuke said and Mirai laughed. It was true anyway. And what’s more is that he already knew so well why she loved them but…he wanted that smile to linger on her lips.
“It’s just that such stories show just how strong one’s love is. Like, even if the girl has passed away years ago, the guy still keeps her alive within his memories and such. And like if one of them has a disease, they don’t abandon each other and fight together. The struggle is just so beautiful,” Mirai said, completely infatuated with the idea, “That’s why I want my life to be like that. I want to see up to where I can hold on with whoever I’ll be with.”
“Demo…don’t you think, you’d be happier if that person didn’t die? Simply being together through the challenge of time…isn’t that enough?” Ryosuke asked.
“That would be nice too…but I guess…a tragic story would be more of an impact ne?” Mirai said. “It shows the real battle of life. Battle against death.”
“Sasuga na~ You’re more twisted than I am,” Ryosuke joked.
“Urusai,” Mirai said and giggled.
“Ah…but I really have my fingers crossed for it!” Mirai said determinedly.
“As always,” Ryosuke replied, hearing that phrase for more than a thousand times.
“Either way, whatever life brings me, I still would admire couples that go through things like that,” Mirai said, looking up at the stars.
“Ne Mirai…,” Ryosuke said after a few minutes when they didn’t say anything.
“Hm?” Mirai asked, still looking up at the heavenly bodies.
“Can I do something I’ve always wanted to try?” he asked her, sitting up straight, facing her.
“Sure, what is it?” Mirai said, facing him and without another word, Ryosuke slid his hand to the back of her neck, pulling her closer to him and kissed her lightly on the lips.
At first, Mirai couldn’t move but then she found herself responding to his kiss as if it were the most natural thing to her. After a while she felt Ryosuke pull away from her, leaving his hand on her neck.
“I’ve been wanting to do that since before,” he said and smiled.
“Eh?”
“I’ve always been in love with you,” Ryosuke told her and laughed lightly at himself as if he were stupid to feel so.
“Mirai…maybe I can’t give you that tragic love story that you’ve been waiting for, who knows? But one thing I’m sure of now is that…I don’t want to die just yet. So…is this okay?” Ryosuke asked her, moving his hand from her neck to hers, lacing their fingers together.
“Un,” Mirai said, nodding and smiled at him, her heart swelling with happiness that she couldn’t explain.
