[42] Travel + random things I like

Apr 20, 2016 09:10

I've been meaning to make icons of some of my trips for a while now, mostly because I have a thing about my userpics being a somewhat accurate representation of things I like and/or are useful, and so I wanted to get a few trip shots in there. The current theiconthrone theme challenge is "all about me", so I decided I would do icons from photographs I've taken ( Read more... )

THIS IS AMAZING, HOLY CRAP.
I love the coloring on these, obviously, but what a great idea, and those pictures are really awesome, wow! :)
And I'm so envious of you getting to travel, so cool! :D

THANK YOU :D

Well most of my travel has only been in the last few years + nearby! And I legit save up and budget very carefully in order to be able to travel. I can't do straight up backpacking but I DIY, 3-star, off the beaten track, no shopping kind of travel in order to afford it (and book things like super in advance or on sales). I guess it helps that Asia where I live is generally cheaper, but that also translates to lower income too XD so I'm not sure how much THAT saves me (plus when I travel to western/first world, I have to save up like...two years or more for it)

That sounds totally awesome, though! There was a documentary here about a guy from my country travelling all over the world with basically essentials in a backpack and nothing else. He'd just go from country to country, and do random jobs for a couple of days for money, and honestly, if I could I would do it, too. Or save money and like go on a world wide trip, there are so many things I want to see. The farthest I've gone was to Spain during my class trip in high school, lol. And that was a looong time ago. And yeah, different living standars are quite influential. But totally awesome for you to have see all these places, and like I said, those pictures are awesome. I can live vicariously through you, haha. <3

I wanted to do that for so long! I went straight to work once I graduated so I've never had a gap year or anything, but the longer I've had to think and plan it the more I think I also probably won't survive so well hahaha. For one thing, having a Philippine passport is seriously difficult. Like a lot of countries can do that ("voluntour", basically--lodging and food in exchange for work) but we can't, we need like legit working visas and everything. It also makes just straight up planning more difficult, since, yeah, tourist visas can also be hairy. What, you're not employed in your country of residence, do you seriously expect us to let you into our country when so many of your countrymen evade the law and stay here and work?, etc. which is TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE of course lol but still, soooo difficult. I still haven't tried getting a US visa because I'm rather...intimidated LOL but I might try for it next year??? IDK it depends on what my finances look like this year!

LOL SORRY MY REPLY IS SUCH A SPOILSPORT

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure how it worked with visas and such, but good for him, I guess, lol. I would totally do the same but like you said, there is much to it from paperwork alone, when you get everything in order I guess you can't just go gallivanting wherever you want, haha. I was supposed to go to high school in the States but it didn't work out (as in, my mom wouldn't let me) and then later I was supposed to go for summers abroad to Canada and to Great Britain, but that didn't work out due to my mom getting sick and then I never ended up anywhere after that. I just really want to go see places, the world, I am not cut out for like working and settling down in one place, that's way too damn boring, lol.

Awww totally know how it feels to want to travel but not have the means to. Although the travel bug hit me pretty late- the first time I got a passport was when I MOVED to another country to work :P so it was a bit extreme in my case lol. Still I'm also super amazed and in awe and in a bit of envy with folks who can make working on the road possible. Like I want to do it, but I'm actually generally someone who likes my routine and stability, just with a few long slow trips to break the monotony. I think it could very well change once I actually get a better taste of working and living on the road/out of a backpack, but oh well! It's not something that's feasible, so I'll just...daydream about it haha

Still, you got to see a lot, at least from my perspective. Like, a trip to the ER is what I consider travelling these days, ahaha. Yeah, it's just like to see so much, but I mean, there's always one day, no matter how far in the future, but I'll definitely do this. And yes, daydreaming it is, lol. :D
