History of Taiwan.
Taiwan's mention in Hetalia.
Personality: Taiwan, like most of the Hetaila girls, has an array of complex emotions and understanding that build the fortress of her foundation as a Nation. Often seen as the little sister type of character to most of the Asian family, her roots spread far beyond that to a compassionate and caring Nation that she often hides behind a 'tough' exterior from years of being under a man's rule. This is often seen with how China or Korea tend to treat her. Usually it sarcastically and poking fun at her and while she tries to put up a tough front, she often has felt vulnerable to such poking and fun making. Thankfully, other nations such as Japan, Hong Kong and America have seen her as a valuable ally especially when it comes to marketing. Hong Kong tends to dote on her as if she really were such a little sister but often enough it confuses her as to why he's being kind, easily mistaking it for some sort of backhand compliment that Korea and China often give her. Because of this, she worries she comes off too rude or too angry when all in all, she's just confused.
Strong willed and fashionable, Taiwan has gone from being a rather tomboyish girl always trailing after the boys, to a sort of nervous little sister than can never stop worrying about the well beings of others. Because of the rule of Japan and China over her, Taiwan holds different feelings for the two. With China, the rule of Big Brother was more so used as tactics to force his culture on her yet when Japan came in to the picture, he at least helped with building her up to be a strong nation. That is until his defeat of World War II that left him frail and unable to maintain her economy with his own failing. Because of that, Taiwan was once again, passed off to China. While she worries for China and how he's quickly becoming a power player of the world, she still cares deep for Japan and often tells China to leave Japan alone for his own benefit. With Japan being on the 'losing side' of the war, Taiwan had to endure seeing the rough end and almost near collapse of a nation that had given her much like proper plumping and irrigation systems that have helped her economy and thus in turn, her people grow. The world soon saw her as a rising Nation and useful to boot. Seen as the martyr of the Asians, her worry is quickly seen as justifiable with what she has had to dealt with in the past. Even before China was at her lands, Taiwan was founded by the Dutch, Portuguese and Spanish settlers which had given her the name Island Formosa. They saw her lands as plentiful and while she rolls her eyes at most Europeans, she does silently thank them for giving her such a chance at life. Because of such, Taiwan is still one of the lead producers of tomatoes in the world.
Beneath the shyness and nervous intimidation though, lies a fashionable diva at best. She's often seen in the manga being a smart-mouthed little sister with a quick temper that's only then retracted with a cheerful splendor and attitude to a situation. Her home land is known for harboring many festivals that span from both rich culture heritage of both Japan and China and even Korea. Though often enough, Taiwan tries her best not to let others worry for her but let her worry for others. She's able to do many things that often surprise many given her size and stature as a Nation.
Abilities: Being one of the mass producer of goods only to rival China and Korea, Taiwan's abilities are not limited by much. She is able to reproduce and fix any sorts of goods while mending and offering as much help as she can to other nations. Able to make almost anything, she's sought out to be a trade giver in the world, often making goods for cheaper prices than sold for just for her ability to mass produce things when need comes to it.
However, her abilities just don't stop there; Taiwan, being one of China's family members, is rather skilled in martial arts though she shares the same sort of interests as Japan does. After being under two different influences, Taiwan's abilities have become her own, forming a hybrid of martial arts, arts and dance that she's able to perform with dignity and grace, such as taught by the two fathering Nation's. Women in her part of the world, are often seen as the givers and producers; because of this, Taiwan often takes the role of little sister or wife to heart. She worries, she plans, she's there for them when they are needed and she does her best to be helpful to anyone she can be.
Sample Entry: Taiwan had been used to public transportation. Even when visiting Japan, she knew about all the trains, trolleys and other means of transportation that usually didn't include driving herself. So when she stepped on the train she didn't even think to second guess herself and why should she?It was a normal thing for her to do.
She found somewhere to take a seat, enjoying the comfort of a window seat to watch the scenery of her land woosh by. The people would often smile and wave at her friendly face and in turn she would wave giant sleeves back at them happily. This time, however, she felt a little more tired than usual. "A small nap shouldn't hurt." She told herself as she leaned comfortably in her seat and tilted her head back to the cushion of the train, closing her eyes with a small sigh of contentment.
When she began to flutter them open, she noticed that the scenery and that the train itself had changed. "...Did I get on another train?" She asked to herself while she looked around while standing up carefully. It felt like there was a lot of tension in the air so when she moved from the seat to the aisle ways, she did so slowly, cautiously.
Stepping off of the train with a small hop on the last step, Taiwan stared around with owlishly wide eyes like she had stepped in to one of Japan's many horror video games or even one of America's horror films. "If they're playing a joke on me I'll be super angry." She huffed to herself as she straightened up. Time to prove she wasn't as scared as her brothers thought she was. One step, two step, three steps and she was away from the train with her hands held tight under her sleeves as she looked around, on edge and alert. The one thing she didn't notice though was that a pocket watch had found its way on her and when it finally loosened up, it tumbled and crashed to the ground. She let out a startled scream and quickly ducked behind one of the mailboxes, shaking.
"I don't like this place!"
