The heat! I'm not one to usually complain about hot, sunny weather in England but gawd. Government warning of a heatwave? Yeah, no shit.
Walked into town for my eye appointment at the opticians. My top was plastered to my back, face bright-red, sweat dripping. Not pretty. My mother insisted on meeting me so she could give an opinion on possible new glasses and so I had to stand about waiting, eventually moving into the next street and beautiful shade. My mother never answers her new phone, mainly because she has no clue how to use it, it's there to look at and mess about on. I rang three times to find out where she was - no answer, answer but no voice, answer 'HELLO!!!' and eventually she turns up, mighty proud she finally learnt how to answer her phone.
And my dad needs to watch it. The heat sends his breathing crazy. He has scarring on the lungs from working in asbestos infected areas and needs to be careful after last summer where he first experienced how bad it can get. No going out for him until the heatwave is over.
I quite enjoy the opticians. I had two new experiences today. The first having a tissue plastered over an eye while I clicked away at every flash I saw. The second having a damn air puff puffed in each eye which I didn't enjoy. Dear me. My eyes haven't changed in the past three years (I'm a year late since I procrastinate with everything) and she was about to pack me off without new glasses which I really needed cause these are getting old. My new ones are black and quite cute, the chunky, jazzy ones are too much for me, I don't care if they're 'all the rage'. May be getting some of those transition lenses too though it's cheaper for her to just change the lenses in my current glasses to UV ones. Speaking of prices, I cannot believe how much a simple eye-test is these days. You're only there for 5 minutes looking at an alphabet, red and green lights, a pen, and maybe a book. Sheesh.
Wimbledon! I usually love watching the tennis, always made it feel like summer and the holidays were around the corner, but I had trouble getting into it last week. It can't be the World Cup surely, cause I normally can't stand football but I suppose I do love the big tournaments. Anyway, my love was rediscovered today. Sat and watched Murray get trounced upon, Federer hardly break a sweat, even in this weather and Sharapova holler her way to the quarter finals. Federer and Mauresmo to win, I think.
I love this song.
Whatever possessed me to actually offer to do extra hours both Tuesday and Wednesday, I sure as hell don't know.
life,
tennis,
summer
