The woes of work.

I really, really, reeaaallly want to quit my job. But then I'll have to look for another one and I have neither the energy or the time.

Reasons....I'm sick of working in a shop. I'm meant to be on the Home department, which I have no problems with, but I'm sick of being moved onto the clothes (women's or kids) departments to do their recovery because they're low on staff. More like people have left and you can't be bothered to replace them. And more and more people are leaving because they are sick of it all too. One of my mates worked on the shoe department, and when the shoe company withdrew from BHS, he was out of a job. They could have gave him back his old BHS one but they kept him waiting, said Jessica now had his hours, she then quit because they refused her any time off to care for her sick father, and they turned to him and said they were refusing him a permanent job because of his past conduct (that being he had once complained about a manager). Now they're worrying because they have next to no-one working on mens on the weekend.

Everyone I began working with have left or are planning to. I used to know everyone on every department now there's just kids fresh out of school because they can get them cheaper and the odd one who I know. Home/the desk is the only one that still has the majority of those who started with me or were there already. It's them that have kept me there so far. But...

..I am sick of one guy on my department. He's one of those who feel the need to wind you up constantly. We didn't know how to take him at first as sometimes he can be canny but honest to god, he can go on and it's starting to wear thin. I've had enough of his attitude. Of course, the lads love him.

Extra hours. Well, since it's the holidays I'd usually do extra but since I cannot stand being there longer than I have to. I honestly couldn't care less about the extra cash. Our DM asked who wanted extra and we all put our names down and what hours we want only to find out she's passing them on to the boss who can pick and choose who she wants, what hours and where every week. Why can't we just do what we normally do? Our DM saying she needs cover this week, we pick what we can do and all on our own department. This passing it on the the boss is because of the lack of staff.

And my bloody legs have gone in a right state. I'm 21 and I'm coming home a wreck from standing for 8 hours for god's sake. It never used to bother me - my shoulders maybe, but they're always tense - until the last month or so. It's just the constant standing about - at the till, doing recovery, on the phone...etc. especially when the place is dead. I don't mind standing about when I'm actually doing something such as at uni, digs or in the lab. I don't know if it's because I'm going through a rough patch at work. In the past, I've went through phases where I hate the place and want to quit and I ended up coming home a wreck too.

I need a change. I couldn't do a job like this for the rest of life. Especially after being out there and doing archaeology and whatnot. I need to get out instead of being stuck in a stuffy old shop. That's what I want.

moaning, work
