keep these boll weevils off my brand new cotton dress

Instead of doing any of the things I promised to write about, or replying to the gigantic influx of comments on my icons [thanks, everyone! you make me feel so loved.] I will now write about my 50 favorite songs. Because I never did it before. In no particular order. Subject to change.

1. Guns 'N' Roses, Paradise City -- Shut up. I can hear you laughing at me. Not only are there associations, it's a damn fun song.
2. Led Zeppelin, Stairway To Heaven -- A cliché, maybe. But I love this song to death, and it never gets old.
3. Blur, Essex Dogs -- You probably haven't heard this song. If you have, you probably hate it or think it's Damon Albarn on crack. And yet.
4. Tori Amos, Precious Things -- What I said the other day. Eerie, beautiful, never gets old.
5. The White Stripes, Ball and Biscuit -- If only they would release this as a single. If only. This song is sex. And live? Proves why my OTP [among others] is Jack White and his guitar.
6. The Doors, The End -- Yup. Very long. the west is the best. Random as all hell, and I love you Jim Morrison.
7. The Beatles, Within You Without You -- George Harrison was the best thing ever to happen to the Beatles. Those sitars, mmm.
8. David Bowie, Space Oddity -- never fails to make me happy. Just amazing.
9. Incubus, The Warmth -- the song that got me hooked on Incubus. I had heard Pardon Me and liked it, but went on Amazon and read some reviews of the Make Yourself album and people described The Warmth as starting out with whale songs. This all sounded innovative and different, so I downloaded Amazon's clip. And I fell in love.
10. Blur, Battle -- Again, not an oft mentioned favorite. But I adore it. Sexy, and really eerie. The beginning of the song is just a perfect transition from the insanity of B.L.U.R.E.M.I., the previous track on 13. It makes you stop and listen. Interesting fact: when corngirl_jo was searching for a good Sark song for a vid, I told her she should use Battle. Well, she considered it for a while and luckily enough for a bunch of you, instead used
11. Tom McRae, Karaoke Soul -- the song that made me fall in love with the Tom. Was it last year? Perhaps early this year. Whatever it is about this song, it's simply brilliant. The strings, the guitar, the lyrics. The Tom.
12. Radiohead, Paranoid Android -- I have said, time and again, that I think this is the best song ever written. I stand to that opinion still.
13. Foo Fighters, February Stars -- ::weeps:: It's just so schmoopy! But not. If a song could describe the way I want S/B, [and not the lyrics, the song] this would be it. Actually, the lyrics too.
14. New Order, Temptation -- The catchiest. song. evah. Conjures images of babies crawling on ceilings, but that's just me.
15. No Doubt, Too Late -- ::coughspikebuffyseasonsixcough:: It's really heartbreaking and Gwen's voice just soars.
16. The White Stripes, Aluminum -- see above, re: essex dogs. But sometimes I just want to drive through San Francisco BLASTING this as loud as possible.
17. Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody -- conjures more memories than humanly possible. Singing it passes the time like no other.
18. Limp Bizkit, Faith -- and I shit you not. I moshed harder to this song than anything. At highschool dances.
19. Soft Cell, Tainted Love -- the theme song for the drama geeks. You wouldn't imagine a curtain call for Our Town with Tainted Love in the background. But it happened.
20. Björk [featuring Thom Yorke], I Have Seen It All -- I had to watch her performance of this song at the Academy Awards with my entire family mocking it in the background. It's a beautifully poignant song. And I still haven't seen Dancer in the Dark.
21. Garbage, Queer -- Shirley Manson is the queen. And that is all.
22. Radiohead, My Iron Lung -- My favorite song to rock out to, and the guitars are another example of why Radiohead is not the overrated crappy band you might think it is.
23. Queen [featuring David Bowie], Under Pressure -- Vanilla Ice is a cheap crackwhore who ripped the best guitar line of all time. Freddie & David cannot be stopped.
24. Dido, Take My Hand -- I actually wanted to make an [Tamora Pierce's] Alanna vid to this. I didn't know about vids then, but the idea in my head was most definitely a vid. Except Lioness Rampant and co. are books. But you get the idea. This song is almost techno-y. It's really odd, considering the feel of the No Angel album.
25. Underworld, Born Slippy -- the final song in Trainspotting. If you've seen the movie, you love it too.
26. The Prodigy, Smack My Bitch Up -- It's sexy. Yes, the lyrics are smack my bitch up. One of the songs I could not live without.
27. David Bowie & Massive Attack, Nature Boy -- At the very end, Satine says I love you almost inaudibly. And I cry.
28. D'Angelo, Untitled [How Does It Feel] -- One of the few modern R&B songs that I am absolutely in love with. And I think I may have to buy the Voodoo album because each MP3 I download is cut off at the end.
29. Nirvana, Something in the Way -- The day Kurt Cobain died, I listened to this on repeat for hours. Yeah.
30. Pulp, This Is Hardcore -- Hooboy. Jarvis Cocker.
31. Alanis Morissette, You Oughta Know -- I haven't really listened to this song in years, but I can still quote every lyric. THE bitch-girl anthem.
32. Tori Amos, Mother -- At some point in my life, I will learn how to play this on piano. The opening solo is just GUH.
33. Incubus, Just A Phrase -- The only song I can think of where the introduction is even better than the actual song.
34. Blur, Villa Rosie -- The opening guitar rhythm is damn cool. When I first heard Coldplay's Politik, I was struck with deja vu. It's a very musically complex song.
35. Iggy Pop, Lust for Life -- Such a fun driving song. Or, you know, running-away-from-the-cops-because-you-stole-a-bunch-of-shit song.
36. Suzanne Vega, Tom's Diner -- Not the one on the album, but the cool remix they always used to play on the radio. It's a chill, awesome song. Yes, I was born and raised in California, why do you ask? ::snerk::
37. The Proclaimers, 500 Miles -- Even if it wasn't in Benny and Joon, I would still adore this song.
38. Sublime, Paddle Out -- The SUBLIME! Man, there are not enough Sublime fans on LJ.
39. The B-52s, Love Shack -- Enough said.
40. Beastie Boys, Intergalactic -- My absolute favorite music video in the entire world, from a severely underrated band. I like my sugar with coffee and cream!
41. King Missile, Detachable Penis -- Comments? First, download the song. Then come back to me.
42. Rammstein, Du Hast -- Ah, German death rock.
43. VAST, Touched -- I love this song. I can't explain it.
44. Björk, Hunter -- Her sexiest song. Guh.
45. Kraftwerk, Trans-Europe Express -- Download. It.
46. The Doors, Alabama Song [Whiskey Bar] -- Oh, don't ask why...
47. John Mayer, Neon -- The hardest song I have ever tried to play on the guitar.
48. The White Stripes, Let's Build A Home -- Oooh. If you still haven't downloaded the MPG I am sharing of the stripes performing live on Conan, you're seriously missing out on some SEX. Here be linkage.
49. Radiohead, A Wolf At The Door -- I think I am the only one in the world who loves this song more than any other on Hail To The Thief.
50. Lou Reed, Heroin -- Ha. Heh. CRACK!

Of course, now there are a few hundred songs that are screaming, "AREN'T I YOUR FAVORITE? ::SOB::" Gah.

And lystin friended me last night and then today I saw that her journal was deleted. Huh. :(
