THE DOCTOR WILL RETURN IN
LET'S KILL HITLER
AUTUMN 2011
and I seriously snorted and fell flat on my face on my bed and laughed so hard without stopping for several minutes. Oh my goddddd. Best. Title Card. Ever.
Though I'd wondered if River was perhaps the little girl was perhaps Amy and Rory's baby throughout these earlier episodes, nothing in this ep specifically made me think that she was, not even the fact that her name was Melody, whatever, I've made my peace with the fact that I watch television like a easily surprised and shocked child, so that reveal at the end was amazing. I mean, I suppose I guessed that's where they were going as soon as the Doctor left and it was River talking to Amy and Rory, but it all happened so quickly that I was still caught up in the excitement.
I think the reveal that River is their child makes the whole pregnancy story worth it. I mean, last year when I was accidentally spoiled for the plot of Amy's Choice (and thought Amy pregnant was real) I was so, so, so annoyed. And this year when Amy revealed she was pregnant I was skeptical, then thankful when she told him she wasn't. But then this back and forth, and then the overused scifi trope of a pregnant woman being trapped and forced to give birth and her child being taken away...I really think it's all worth it now that it's River Song's backstory.
I loooved the Gay Agenda all around this episode, with the fat tall married gay Anglicans and the Victorian Silurian/human lesbians! I actually would love it if they brought them back (I'm sure they will) which I never thought I'd say after last year's Snorelurian eps. And I want to find out how Lorna met the Doctor, and I want to find out about Kovarian, and LET'S KILL HITLER, but I am really glad that this cliffhanger isn't really the kind that's going to make me tear my hair out over the summer.
I am definitely going to rewatch these episodes a billion times, though, looking for clues, and watch every single one of River's scenes ever with Amy and Rory and laugh to myself about they're her parents, THAT is for sure. (Though, RIP Doctor Who After Hours.) Then I will have more thoughts, because right now I am sooo late for work, oops.
LET'S KILL HITLER!
