like a monkey with a miniature cymbal

1. The best thing about my new short hair is waking up and looking like Joshua Von Grimm from The Horrors. (Have I mentioned I've somehow gone from downloading their album back in London cos I liked their DJ set and listening to it without really paying attention, to buying their album yesterday at work because I listen to it constantly? They're pretty far off from what I listen to usually, but what I go for most in music is creativity and weirdness and they've certainly got that in spades.)

2. You'd think, instead of listening to Jonny Greenwood's score for There Will Be Blood so much I've actually memorised it, that I would actually SEE THE FILM, since it's been out since the end of December. Only I'm broke (or rather, am anticipating being broke very soon) and have only been seeing movies with my family. I'm going to try and see it before I leave, but that gives me...tonight and tomorrow night. Good luck, me.

3. I didn't know the Golden Globes were announced last night, but looking at the winners, I am actually kind of satisfied. I mean, I was never going to be happy about the fact that Jonny wasn't nominated (seriously, were they on crazy pills?), but I called Cate Blanchett winnning for I'm Not There back in May and I am so happy. It's pretty much going to be her and Bardem (though I haven't seen No Country For Old Men) as a lock for the Oscars, and I want to say Daniel Day-Lewis is going to get the Best Actor, though I could see an upset happening. But back to the GGs, Sweeney Todd and Johnny Depp winning makes me happier than pie, if Ratatouille hadn't won I might have blown a gasket (did I mention I rang up Brad Bird at work again?), and the Extras and Tina Fey win makes me giddy.

4. It's been what, a month, and I am still freaking obsessed with Hot Chip. I'm so glad Julian Barratt interviewed them for that Boosh-edited NME and I decided to check them out. He is the reason I am spending $31.80 to see them at Terminal 5 in April. (Thanks a lot, enabler!) But the end of that article still gets me:

Julian: "Do you get work done on tour?"
Joe [Goddard, from Hot Chip]: "My laptops and I have a go."
Julian: "I usually set it up on the first night in a hotel room and never touch it again. Or come in drunk and do a love song."
Joe: "...and in the morning delete it."
Julian: "We've all been there, haven't we?"

I may fangirl his other half* a bit, but believe me, I have no lack of love for the Barratt. Along with his comic genius, his beats are tastier than any other, he can play a mean guitar, and holy crap, I want to hear his deleted love songs. :)

*They refer to their relationship as a "dad/wife relationship". Apparently because among other reasons, Noel frequently does Julian's laundry. And then Julian beats him. (Har.)

hair, hot chip, golden globes, jonny greenwood is the controller, the mighty boosh
