I found the Green Wing Christmas special today when I woke up. I considered waiting until I'd finished my rewatch of series two. For about two seconds. So I watched it until the literal moment I had to actually get in the car and leave for my chiropractic appointment. Which is why I had to last until 3-ish on nothing but cereal and a banana.
That was one of the most oddly romantic things I've seen. It was so moving at innapropriate times. I mean -- Martin sobbing about how Mac was dying was at first hilarious, but then as he started to list all the things Mac would never do, I almost started to cry myself. In fact, I think I did. And then: "I heart you!" "I heart you, too!"
MAC. I just. I think if I start thinking about it too much I'm going to cry. I mean, he's going to die. But he married Caroline, and there's the happy romantic ending, but it's tinged with this horrible future. I love how they dealt with Sue. It was just so perfect, the scene with her and Mac, the gun in his mouth, and then: "How about you fall in love with someone else? Someone who will love you back." And she's like, oh, okay, as if she had never thought of that before. And looks through 'The Phone Book'. And shows up at the wedding with this gloriously hot boytoy!
Oh god, Karen. They dealt with Karen PERFECTLY.
Martin's look when he saw Karen was the same as he tried when Guy was teaching him how to hit on women.
Martin's mime! Guy's kilt [and dagger]!
Boyce missing Statham! Poking himself with the pointer! SERENADING!
Joanna and Alan's end. For some reason, I kind of loved it. It was oddly moving.
And I know it's just because I'm stupid, but I still love Caroline/Mac and I really don't think I would have been able to deal with it had Mac ended the series alone and about to die.
While Guy Secretan may be one of my favourite characters OF ALL TIME, my love for Mac is in my freaking LJ name [subliminally]: Eve/Mac. I mean, come on.
More thoughts when I can do a rewatch [I'll probably finish series two again tonight or tomorrow and rewatch the special afterwards] and get all the fucking brilliant quotes.
I also saw The Holiday tonight with Rose and Sismac, because if one thing trumps my disdain for romantic comedies, it's my love for brilliant and odd casting. And Kate Winslet. And Jack Black. And [once more], Jude Law.
But apparently there was an episode of The Office on tonight, and I missed it. DOWNGRADE.
