Being a list:
1. On 16 October I saw Flogging Molly at Webster Hall. I attempted to write a setlist down but failed horribly as I was in the second row and nearly died from alternately being crushed to death by large, tall, boisterous, drunk men and drowning in their sweat. The band did, however, play most of their recognizable canon, like Salty Dog, Rebels of the Sacred Heart, The Seven Deadly Sins, and well, everything. They dedicated Tobacco Island to the people in Darfur --listen to the lyrics, really! -- and when they closed the encore with Black Friday Rule, Dave brought out his bodhrán during the climax and it was fucking awesome.
2. On 3 November I saw The Decemberists at Hammerstein Ballroom. My fifth time seeing them, and it was just as amazing. Alasdair Roberts opened for them; it was his first night touring with them, and I must say I think I fell in love with him. He's from Glasgow, is terribly adorably skinny, and looks-wise kind of the love-child of David Tennant and Thom Yorke. [Savour that idea for a while. Heh.] I have a setlist!
The Crane Wife 3
The Island: Come And See - The Landlord's Daughter - You'll Not Feel The Drowning
We Both Go Down Together
The Engine Driver
Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then)
The Perfect Crime #2
Shankill Butchers
Song for Myla Goldberg [a new, downtempo version!!]
O, Valencia!
Culling of the Fold
16 Military Wives
The Crane Wife 1 & 2
Sons & Daughters
[ENCORE]
Red Right Ankle
A Cautionary Song
I Was Meant For The Stage
And, as usual, someday I will write up all my notes and post them. I used to be so good about it! Really, I did. One thought for now -- I miss Petra Haden. The new singer/violinist is good, but compared to Petra, her chemistry with Colin is that of soggy toast. :(
3. Today,
ignited and I saw The Prestige. Christopher Nolan is still my hero. I still want to marry Christian Bale. And Hugh Jackman, obviously, but, y'know, there hasn't been that burning desire ever since I was wee. Scarlett Johansson actually pleasantly surprised me. Her generic 'English' accent wasn't as bad as I expected it to be, and I thought the character was well-developed, which helped. Anyway. Since it's not really coming across right now, I have to state that I LOVED THIS DAMN MOVIE OH MY GOD. I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. I've also been obsessed with Nicola Tesla for some years now, so David Bowie playing him was pretty much specially designed for my geekery. Anyway. Hopefully I'll see it again, and can write something coherent. [Also, hi -- Analyse over the credits. ANALYSE OVER THE CREDITS!]
4. Today is also Election Day. Last week I sent in my Absentee Ballot back home, and I am crossing my fingers that the voters of California voted similarly. Otherwise I will drop out of university, move to a commune in West Marin, and help form the People's Republic of the Bay Area.
THAT MEANS YOU, SCHWARZENEGGER. GO AWAY. GO AWAY NOW.
[If you want to see how upset I got when he was first elected with the recall, see my 'governator' tag.]
