(say it like it's two words, BE otches.)
Johnny Depp is not singing in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Note the differences between 1971's Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and 2005's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
- The title. The new version is actually named after Roald Dahl's book.
- Tim Burton is developing this off the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It is not a remake of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. That's like saying PJ's LotR is a remake of Bakshi's LotR.
- Thus, because the book is not a musical, neither is the new film.
- The book is eerie, rather than creepy (IMO obviously, but anyone who has both seen the 1971 version and read the book knows what I'm trying to describe.) Hopefully then, so will Tim Burton's version be eerie.
With that said, I think I've shown everyone I know this new teaser poster. I could not imagine any other way for Johnny Depp to look more like a dandy. Actually, it's inspiring me to write a screenplay in my head of Jude Law and Johnny Depp walking around, being dandies who have lots of sex. Jonny Lee Miller, circa Plunkett and Macleane is there too.
