Upon looking through a recent catalogue from Delia's. As well as walking downtown.
I understand that pleated/frilly miniskirts are the It Thing this season. But people, more specifically 12-year-old girls, need to take their current environment into account.
Summer weather in the Bay Area isn't exactly like summer weather anywhere else in the US. You look at those weather maps during the supposed nation-wide heat waves, see masses of reds, oranges, yellows. And then if you look very closely at the western edge of California, right in the middle of the coast, there's a patch of green. Tiny.
So while everyone else is dying of heatstroke, we've got our 60-70F, non-humid days. More often than not inundated with fog and wind. One of the "you know you're a San Franciscan" points on the meme I did was: You see people wearing shorts in June and you know they're tourists.
And even when it is sunny, like it has been for the past week [temperatures up into the 90s! Gasp! The HEAT!] we still have our blustery gusts of wind. Almost constantly. It's all about the low pressure in the Sacramento valley, which sucks in the fog to the Bay Area. And makes Sacramento 200 billion degrees in the summer.
My point is, when you wear these tiny pieces of cloth around your ass? Be prepared for them to blow around and expose your underwear -- which, nowadays, is more likely than not a THONG.
I don't want to see 12-year-old girls' thongs. Nor do I want to see 12-year-old girls wearing those skirts so short that I can see their ass even without the wind.
So I'm waiting for the new trend to strike. Quickly! Someone start wearing bike shorts under their cut-off jean shorts!
[I was joking about that last part. I only want to have to live through that trend once.]
And in regards to my new icon? That is reason 2895928103 to watch Firefly. Simon arms! Arms of Simon! Also notice the chest and abs!
ETA: It's my Jill's day! Happy Birthday,
hecatehatesthat! Make sure you let pudge in on the festivities. ::cough::
