Soul Survivor? Wasn't that the name of some Eliza Dushku movie?

In any case, I forget what tonight's AtS ep was called.

Firstly, the BAPS must be having a heyday. Because our whole Spike as Pinocchio conceit just got continued. From OMWF with "some day he'll be a real boy," and a thousand other references I can't remember, we finally got the Blue Fairy. I squeed.

Basically that represents what I liked about this episode. I loved some of the imagery, and the ideas that it all symbolized. Some of it was badly written, badly executed ::coughwhyisdballowedtodirectcough:: but the themes and the little moments stood out for me.

Like, for example, the bear. Oh. My. God. I must have rewound and laughed at the bear at least five times. That whole scene with Fred was pretty entertaining, though as someone mentioned it was almost existentialist. Mostly, it just reminded me of Mary Poppins' purse.

Then there's the multiple shout-outs. Damn, the shout outs. There's the demony thing, which immediately brought to mind the bezoar from Bad Eggs, and Harmony's 'trying to read the runes but setting them on fire' which was Xander reading the magic books and setting them on fire from sometime in S4. The box with the demony things was similar in both function and appearance to the Box of Gavrok [Choices and surrounding episodes], Wesley's early dream conversation with Angel, 'vampires don't get sick' brought to light the poisoned arrow shot by Faith in S3, the only time a vampire was sick. Lindsey getting visions, calling himself Doyle and wearing the brown leather coat. Spike shagging that blonde girl with quotes from The Prom. Many more.

Wesley and Gunn were disturbingly creepy. Disturbingly. When offering their spiel to Spike, the way they stood solidly side by side with blank faces. The words they said, seemingly innocent but with so much danger hidden underneath. Just some of the reaction shots -- the two men just staring back. Like hit men, or something. Actually, what they reminded me most of is the Agents from The Matrix.

The theme that Angel is jealous of Spike was pretty much pounded into my head, though some of the dreams about such were funny [verged on cheese]. I don't know what I think. There's the thought that Eve and Lindsey could be actually working for the good guys, and it's intriguing, but they look pretty amoral and conniving for that to be true. So generally, I think some of the arcs established and the ideas put across were entertaining and thought-provoking, but as an episode itself? Meh. So I move onto the shallow.

Fred was really pretty in the sequence in the field [although when that scene started I was in fear of being eaten by David Boreanaz' GIGANTIC HEAD], Lindsey was sexxxay, Eve was annoying. Spike was old looking, and I was very surprised to see, taller than Lindsey. Did J. August Richards break his nose? It looked different.

But next week we have a Slayer and ANDREW!!! I am so glad I wasn't spoiled about that. And then Cordy, who looks all cute with her hair back to human normal. I can't wait!

I really used to like Marissa. I did. But somewhere around the Christmas episode I started to gape at her stupidity and now I would really like her just to go and shag Oliver and die in a puddle of drug-addicted rich kid angst.

Ryan! Woobie! But Benjamin McKenzie's acting [what was it that someone said, the 'Remedial Acting Academy of Shifty Eyes'] is getting worse. Which disappoints me. Still, I heart the boy, and want someone to listen to him about Oliver.

Seth was less annoying this week, which was good. Because when Seth is annoying, well -- world without sunshine! Samaire Armstrong continues to have weird vocal/physical patterns, and it could be the writing but Anna is really starting to annoy.

Luke? I love him. I love him SO much. I started to like him when he said he cried at My Girl, but he was still an asshole then. Now he's just a big dumb lunk who is hilariously tactless. And he agrees with Ryan! Gah!

Best line? Sandy and Seth's conversation about Gentiles and their lack of humor. Bwah.

The VCD doesn't have the trailer -- what's happening next week?
