I'm listening to the Cold Mountain tracks I have, and I'm thinking about the Entertainment Weekly feature predicting the Oscar nominees.
And the article said they would guess Jack White's Never Far Away could be a likely nominee except for the fact that it's not actually in the film.
But. I Move On [which SO should have won last year, however much I love Lose Yourself] wasn't actually in the film. Hell, it was written by Kander and Ebb *for* the movie, and they just played it over Chicago's credits.
I haven't seen Cold Mountain yet, but I would assume Never Far Away is played over the credits just as I Move On was.
So couldn't it potentially be nominated for Best Song? Did Entertainment Weekly make an error? [Gasp. Blasphemy!]
Now I'm just musing here, I can't imagine what would happen if it was nominated. Because then I would probably acquire multiple personality disorder and become legally insane from the endless debate in my head: Into the West or Never Far Away? Ahhhh.
[I must be the only one who prefers Gollum's Song to May It Be, the one that got a best song nod. Enya. ::shudders::]
But then again, I stopped taking the Academy seriously when Baz Luhrmann was snubbed for Best Director for Moulin Rouge. He wasn't even nominated. My brain still doesn't comprehend that.
Or perhaps it was before that, when Phil Collins won for a fucking Tarzan song over Aimee Mann [and South Park]!
Or possibly, at the 1997 awards when Titanic took home EVERY SINGLE AWARD.
Anyway. Parity is still stopped at 96%. Of course the *upload* rate is 10 kb/s. Gah.
