Having just watched Moulin Rouge! for the first time in months, I can now safely say again -- still SO much better than Chicago. I mean, gah. Maybe I'm incredibly biased because half of those songs became annoying long ago, but El Tango Du Roxane is better performed, better choreographed, better edited than Cell Block Tango. And everything from Hindi Sad Diamonds on is better than the entire run of Chicago.
Elitist bitch speaking.
And hey -- once you've seen Kevin Richardson [aka ex-Backstreet Boy] as Billy Flynn, there's no going back. [Is that sarcasm? I'm not sure.]
In all seriousness, Richard Gere was the WRONG age. He gave a great performance, but yeesh. Billy Flynn is supposed to be this young hotshot stud in his thirties or so.
Roxie Hart is supposed to be trashier. Renee just came off as whiny.
Catherine Zeta-Jones was OMFGsexxay and perfect, but she was probably born to play Velma Kelly.
In contrast, we have supercrazy editing, amazing costumes/sets, superb casting and old songs reinvented. I could icon every frame of that movie. Not one shot is boring. Everything is calculated and beautifully presented. Ewan can sob better than anyone else. Baz Luhrmann [okay, along with Peter Weir, Peter Jackson, Danny Boyle and Gillian Armstrong] is my favorite contemporary director. David Wenham [Faramir] has the best cameo in the world. Audrey!
In conclusion, I am tired, the FFL commentary is slightly underwhelming considering the last commentary I saw featured Elijah Wood exclaiming, "We're not here to fuck spiders!", and my hair is ridiculously long.
As a postscript, I am very lazy and don't want to actually get around to capping these films so if someone can provide me with good cap sites:
- Moulin Rouge!
- Run Lola Run
- Little Women
::crosses fingers::
I'm not entirely sure when I changed my name to "my brain hurts." But I find it entertaining, just like this icon.
How is it that my tired rambles are less sensible than my drunken one?
