Zedd groaned a bit as he sat down on the fallen log and took his watch. Cara seemed grateful to be able to go rest. She may have not have admitted it, but he was able to tell when even the mighty Mord’Sith needed her rest. Zedd could still not believe he was traveling with a Mord’Sith. Or that his grandson was the Seeker and his granddaughter-in-law was the Mother Confessor. He sat back for a moment and let his mind reminisce over several events that changed his life.
The day Kahlan found him was one of them. He chuckled because he was almost nude, except for the strategically placed Clara. He missed that chicken. She was smarter than some people he knew. As soon as he saw Kahlan he knew his hiding was over and the next journey of his life would begin. He still hated how he had to ruin the life Richard had. A normal life without magic or the threats that often accompanied magic. However, Richard was too extraordinary to lead a normal life.
Then there was the time Shota made Zedd forget himself and caused all sorts of havoc. Zedd harrumphed at the memory. He would admit that Salindra was an amazing woman and if he had been young, but maybe not so foolish, he would have gave her everything she deserved. Shota was deceitful in her actions but it taught him a valuable lesson about youth. Youth and power does not always mix well together. He was grateful for the knowledge and experience his age gave him. The aches and pains that came with it were not welcomed, but they reminded him of everything he accomplished.
Zedd smiled and gave a quick glance to Richard and Kahlan, sleeping next to each other- grasping one another’s hand. He wanted nothing more than for them, and Cara, to be happy and rule over the Midlands as he knew they should. He would help to see that happen.
