The Waterfalls

Kahlan was exhausted. The Creator must be testing her with the constant string of D’Haran soldiers her, Richard, Zedd, and Cara have fended off in the past day. She felt dirty, and not in the good way Richard made her feel dirty. She smirked to herself thinking about the other night. He had snuck her away to a grove of trees behind their campsite and made her his in every way. That was one of the best nights of her life. Now if they could just get a moment’s peace so they could be married. She sighed in frustration.

Cara and Zedd were busy setting up camp when Richard tugged her arm and lead her away from them. She heard Cara mumble something sarcastic about the “crazy couple”. Kahlan smiled and was happy to let Richard be her woods guide for the moment. He moved through the woods like a cat, so stealthy and powerful. Goose bumps always found her way across her body when she watched him in his natural habitat.

Richard suddenly stopped and grinned at her.

“Cover your eyes,” he smiled and took her hands in his, having her cover her eyes with her hands.

“I am to trust the mischievous Seeker?” She teased him. She heard a low chuckle as he wrapped a muscular arm around her corseted waist. He lead her slowly a bit further. She could hear the rushing and gushing of water. She felt Richard move behind her and lean in to her ear.

“It’s the second most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” he whispered- his hot breathe causing more goose bumps to form. Kahlan slowly released her hands and was in awe of the beautiful waterfall standing in front of her. The water was perfectly clear, causing the rocks to shimmer underneath it. Vibrant green foliage surrounded it and reflected lovely colors in the water.

“How can you say second most beautiful?” Kahlan whispered in awe. She had seen many waterfalls in her life, but there was something different about this one. The difference could be because this was the first one she had gotten to share with Richard as her lover and soon to be husband.

“You’re the most beautiful,” he whispered to her. Oh, what this man does to her! How did she become so blessed? No Confessor in their history was able to be with a man because of love. Confessors usually had to take a mate just so they could carry on the line of Confessors. Love was normally a dangerous emotion. Then Richard came along and changed all of that. She thanked the Creator every day for him.

“I have to disagree,” Kahlan turned in his embrace to face him. “You are more beautiful than anything I have ever seen.”

“You do not see yourself through my eyes,” he ran one of his hands down her face, caressing it lovingly.

“We may have to agree to disagree,” Kahlan gazed into his eyes.

“You should never defy the Seeker,” he whispered heatedly, with a twinkle in his eyes.

“And what is the punishment?” Kahlan raised an eyebrow. Richard smiled and pulled her quickly into a hungry kiss. Kahlan was looking forward to this punishment.
