The Right Wrong Impression
"At least one London reviewer thought [L. M. Montgomery's portrayal of a narrow-minded small town] must have been unintentional, saying of her novel Rainbow Valley (1920):
it would appear that Canadian village life is the quintessence of all village life, except that in Canada there appears to be little hope that anyone will take [an] interest in archaeology or botany or something else besides their neighbors' doings. Consequently, thrones are 'fine and private places' compared to the homes of doctors and ministers scrutinised by critical eyes made keener by sectarian jealousy. That is obviously not the impression Miss Montgomery intends to leave, but she leaves it nevertheless.
In her scrapbook of reviews, Montgomery annotated the article thus: 'It is exactly the impression I intended to leave.'"

So I guess I'm finally doing some proofreading on Evelyn Blake? I did minor revision of the first five chapters earlier this week. If I stay invested, I'll probably do a couple of larger revisions eventually, too. And then what? Maybe post it on AO3 with a nice cover image or something. I'm also working on some original fiction, but the sad truth is I don't care about any of those people right now as much as I care about Ev and Maud :(
