I'm serious, I'm having one. It's like time flew away from me and now I'm heading towards 30 way too fast. Have you tried surgical titanium? The piercings I have are all surgical steel, but surgical titanium isn't much more expensive and IIRC is even more hypoallergenic.
Also, the way in which you get them pierced matters. The first time I had my lobes pierced, it was with a piercing gun, which is absolutely the wrong way to do it -- the little plastic piercing gun can't be autoclaved, and the studs they use with them don't make a clean hole in the ear. It's difficult to see because the hole is so small, but whereas a piercing needle makes a clean, surgical slice, a piercing stud is much duller and actually tears through the skin rather than cutting, so piercings done with studs are much more prone to infection. A piercing done with a needle and fitted with a captive bead ring is also much easier to clean, because the ring can move much more freely. You can get gold CBRs, too, and the studio can autoclave them for you.
There's a piercing studio on Parijsstraat in Leuven that I like a lot. It's where I got my industrial (the vertical bar through the cartilage in my left ear) done, and that one has healed up nicely even though cartilage takes forever to heal. I'm not sure if there's a studio in Zaventem but there are definitely a bunch of reputable places in Brussels proper.

I really want them but... ouch. The last time I was stubborn too and refused to take them out for days even when my ears were infected. I ended up passing out from the pain.
