It's been a long time

Back in September, the motherboard on our computer fried. I still had some internet access through my wii, but anything more than rudimentary internet surfing was a tremendous pain in the ass. Pages with too much flash wouldn't load because the wii just doesn't have that kind of free memory to load those pages. On top of that, the Opera browser just doesn't get along with some sites. To compound it all, typing consisted of pointing the wiimote at a keyboard on screen and clicking letters one at a time. Copy? Paste? Open multiple pages simultaneously? Ha!

I was willing to put up with that bullshit, and was willing to continue to put up with it for another year because... my boyfriend was saving for my engagement ring, and then we'd need to save for the wedding. I'm engaged! Nick proposed just before Thanksgiving, and we're getting married in Austin in early November. I know some of you might already have picked up on my engagement from the few tweets I might have mentioned it in.

The only reason I'm writing this today is that my dad decided to buy me a laptop for my thirtieth birthday to alleviate my internet woes. I've seriously missed having a computer. Internet aside, the computer is a major organizational force in my life, and I loathe the number of paper scrap notes that have multiplied everywhere in my house since I lost computer access.

I love my ring. It's a cushion cut diamond in a palladium setting. I don't think I'm that materialistic, but I really wanted a 1ct diamond engagement ring. I feel guilty spending large amounts of money, so I have very few really nice things, but I felt that I could justify a ring like this because it's a classic looking piece that I intend to wear every day. It helped that since we have a joint bank account, I was contributing to it's purchase.

They only thing accomplished thus far, is that I've booked my venue. At least that's a very important thing, and it's a nice packaged deal, so it actually takes care of a nice chunk of business.

We'll be getting married Sunday morning followed by a delicious brunch, and a brunch bar serving mimosas, bloody marys, and poinsettias. Check out my menu, and tell me what looks good! The only thing we're really set on is the stuffed french toast.
