Last weekend, on the May Bank Holiday Saturday, my parents and I did the tourist thing and took a trip on the old steamship 'Sir Walter Scott' on Loch Katrine in the Trosshachs. With flat grey skies and a mist in the atmosphere it wasn't the best of days for boat trips, sightseeing or photography, but at least for once the rain stayed off. There was a fair breeze blowing and out on the water it was fucking freezing; luckily there was a bar onboard and my mother and I headed down into the cabin for hot chocolates, while my father (pennypinching old nipscrat) stubbornly continued to shiver on deck because he couldn't thole the £1.40 for a hot drink.

LJ gallery. And by the way this is also pretty much what all of upland Scotland north of the Highland boundary fault looks like, except that further north the mountains are higher and the landscape is bleaker, with fewer trees.
