So here I am, almost 42 and going back to school for Fashion Design. If you know me, it probably shouldn't come as a total shock, although it might come as a surprise if you haven't talked to me in a while. But I am part of the couple that came to Seattle for 10 days and bought a house (couldn't find a tee shirt we liked so we got a house instead). No, we didn't have jobs here. No we didn't have families here. We liked the house. And we liked the area. And we moved here five months afterward (still without jobs).
Am I always doing crazy, risky things like that? I don't think so, but I guess you'd have to ask the people who know me to really know for sure. But to tell the truth, I never had a hard and fast plan of how my life would work, other than to be open to opportunity when it came along.
I guess I've taken more risks since I've met H--he always asks what's the worst that could happen. I respond with "I could fail." Then he laughs. Failure is a big thing to me, but his laugh and his confidence in me is amazing. Boy do I love that man.
Okay--off topic.
So here I am, almost 42 and going back to school for Fashion Design. I have discovered that, somehow, Cornell (where I spent my tender undergraduate years) has no transcript record of me taking Computer Science 101, so I took the placement exam for the Basic Computers course at the Art Institute and...a drum roll please...I passed. I've called the university to get the ball rolling on finding out what happened and getting the transcript corrected, but the universe only knows how long that could take.
I also have finally gotten the Art Institute to accept that I do not have to take an English Composition course from them (YIPPEE!!) and have 18 credits toward my Associate's Degree when I walk through the door. I have my schedule for courses: Industrial Sewing Techniques on Wednesday afternoons, Basic Patternmaking then Design on Thursdays, and Introduction to Manufacturing and Public Speaking on Fridays.
Just to make my life perfect I've got a booth (the last one) at OryCon five weeks after I start classes. I will be sewing my fingers to the bone putting together inventory for the big event. Got some new ideas for it thanks to Karen Junker. Now if I can pull them off in time.
This weekend is FoolsCap where we'll be participating in panels and the general fun this weekend. Have already met some new people and seen some old friends that we don't see that often. Was super tired last night, but thankfully didn't spill anything on anybody...at least I don't think I did. Must get the act together and dash off to today's activities.
