There's a day off from fighting at Harrenhal, ostensibly to feast and relax, but more honestly to plot and scheme. Lukas has decided that today's the day he hires several dozen knights and men at arms to protect himself and his lands. Of course, with every lord of any repute whatsoever attending the tournament, such an undertaking is ripe for political consequences. Better get to it!
[Jeor Mormont has sent down a dozen or two Black Brothers to attend the tournament and recruit for the Night's Watch.]
Teddy, a Black Brother: "We sent a raven to the wildlings to take a vacation while we went to the tourney."
Lukas: "They probably ate the raven."
Teddy: "If they could, they'd probably eat the tourney."
[Teddy the Black Brother is a dwarf.]
Teddy: "Unfortunately, I'm the 13th man, so it's only 12 1/2 men."
[Sadly, this is true.]
Christian (to Kyn): "Lukas has time to sleep? Something's gone wrong."
[Janus Reidell has given Soren a set of lessons he must take to become a more proper lord, among them horseback riding, heraldry, history, and dancing. Soren, understandably, has no interest in any of them.]
Janus Reidell: "Are you a weak man or a strong man? A weak man gives up before the lessons begin."
Kyn: "A strong man gives up after the lessons begin."
[Janus tries to console Soren about the lessons he must take.]
Janus Reidell: "Think of it this way: at least you don't need to run the realm, only a little piece of it."
Kyn: "Foreshadowing, much?"
[Arella Dayne, heir to Starfall, is the only female knight of Westeros. Lukas had decided that for political reasons, he would ask her to serve at Stone Hedge. Funny, then, that she would arrive at his camp just after the decision has been made. As a clarification: Jeyne had absolutely nothing to do with this.]
Arella Dayne: "I wish to be in service to Stone Hedge."
Lukas: "Was it Jeyne? It was Jeyne, wasn't it?"
Ian the GM: "What?"
Julie: "What?"
Christian: "What?"
[Arella Dayne has been serving at Crossroads under Panther.]
Lukas: "I'm going to be terribly blunt."
Arella Dayne: "I have just spent four years with Maxwell Reidell. I may be used to it."
[Meanwhile, Kyran chats with Deedlit Reidell, who is Maxwell's younger sister and Arella's squire, about the state of the royal family. They once again prove the gender gap between male and female mentalities.]
Kyran: "From what I hear, Rhaegar's wife is not overly healthy."
Deedlit Reidell: "Elia? Oh, she's just pregnant."
[Arella and Lukas work out a deal whereby Arella will serve at Stone Hedge. Kyran jumps to the wrong conclusion.]
Kyran: "It's not often I see a lady leaving Lukas' tent smiling."
[Lyra, Soren, and Jeyne are off visiting Robert and Stannis Baratheon.]
Kyn (suspiciously): "What did you guys do?"
Julie: "Nothing... yet."
[From the department of running gags.]
Kyran: "I was serving your family for two years while you were off being a pirate... my lord."
Lukas: "Merchant sailor."
And that's it for this week. Hopefully next time we advance the plot a bit more and inch our way ever closer to getting out of Harrenhal. See you then!
