I sent this in to The Gazette this morning. We'll see if it ever gets published:
To everyone complaining about getting their bills late and not being able to pay on time: these were not "situations beyond your control." You know what bills you pay each month. You've got previous statements. You know that you're probably not getting your bills in the mail because of the postal strike. Pick up the phone and call them. It takes less than a minute to find out your balance and the due date. (Maybe 5-10 minutes if you count time waiting on hold.) Or, better yet, sign up for e-statements and never be at the mercy of the postal service again. We're not living in the 1950s; you don't need to be beholden to a piece of paper.
