One door closes...

Today's essay on Daily Breadcrumbs is about a double standard which appears in Lev. 25 concerning the treatment of non-Hebrews.

Today I reached a milestone in my ESL teaching: I finished my first corporate contract. It was a 40-hour class, lasting from November to now, generally twice a week for 1.25 hours each session. I learned a lot as I did it, and I'm far more comfortable planning lessons now than I was four months ago. If I had to redo it, knowing then what I know now, there are certainly a few things I would have done differently. (My new contract at Yvon Blais is proof of that.) On the other hand, I didn't know them, and I did the best with what I had.

So, theoretically, starting next week I'm down to 8 hours of work a week.

I say "theoretically" because I apparently have just picked up a few extra hours at Dawson, doing some filing for Ian's dad. I can only assume that I won't be paid on the same salary as I'm making as a writing tutor, but at this point I'll take what I can get. I further assume it won't be a particularly long-term source of employment, as I'm mostly just filing some stuff he currently has in boxes. But, again, I'll take what I can get. I really should start speaking to other learning centres and see if they need anyone for the summer.

Another potential lead: in today's Gazette, there's a place looking for volunteer tutors (for children, I think). I'll call them up and see what that's about. It might not make me money, but it should give me some connections and at least I'll be helping people.

So that's it for now. Karate tonight, and maybe an early night for the first time this week. Tomorrow, a long day at Dawson (probably 9-3 or later with very little break-time), followed up by karate and karaoke, I hope.
