So I have begun Irish language and dance lessons once per week, which is just excellent because I haven't had the benefit of either in more than 7 years. :) I can't even begin to explain how happy this makes me. However, I was highly insulted by the group of rowdy college students who came to dance class this week and didn't take it at all seriously (not that one must take irish dance that seriously, hardly! but DO TRY to do the dance!!!!). In fact, one of them answered their cell phone in the middle of the Haymaker's Jig and fucked up the whole flow. grrr....

I went to the French film Festival COL COA (City of Lights, City of Angels) this weekend and was overjoyed. I saw Michou D'Auber which was absolutely amazing despite the presence of Gerard Depardieu. I actually think it may have been his best acting to date, though. The story is of an Algerian-French boy who is placed in foster care with a French couple in the country just as Algeria is about to gain her independence from the French and tensions are high. The family tries to fake the community into believing that he is Catholic and from the mountains. Both hilarious and touching, I laughed uproariously multiple times and the ending left me in tears. The Q&A with the director, Thomas Gilou was awesome, no thanks to the terrible translator...I was thankful to understand nearly everything he said without her "help". The native speakers (and even myself by the end) were shouting at her with corrections and insults, she was THAT bad. But I highly recommend this movie, it instantly made it into my top 5 movies of all time. Then Sunday I saw a series of delicious short films and did NOT win a free trip to Paris, much to my dismay.
Oh well.

Earlier in the week I enjoyed the presence of the Drop Dead Crew and Mikey for a night at the Goethe Institute Los Angeles for a screening of short art films which included a clip from Der Plan. This was also a lovely gathering, I was however, dismayed at how many people actually showed for it.

So...in the past 7 days...Germany, France, Ireland. My kind of week!
