drip and drop

The weather is rainy. It's not pouring, but it's there. As you most likely know, I have a best friend named Biscuit. He is also the family pup. We are soul mates. Approximately thirty minutes ago, Biscuit took stage in the front room of our house, back against the door, and began his nightly performance, serenading the entire house with an incredibly sad, original composition. Let's just call it his sad song. My family hears this sad song nightly, and it serves as a piercing reminder that Biscuit, too, has to shit sometimes, and he is a good pup and knows better than to make on master's Persian carpets.

Today is a Tuesday, which means that it is my night to walk my friend (I also walk him on Thursdays). Anyway, I heard the cry, so I got up from the computer, walked down the stairs, picked up his leash and attached it to his collar. It's dark out, and it's raining. At the time, the rain was steadily falling. I could hear and see the drops quite vividly. I turned around and looked at the coat rack but almost instantly, I decided to pass on the raincoat and umbrella. I didn't spend too much time thinking about it, and earlier today while I was in the car driving with my mom (It was pouring then) I wanted so badly to just get out and be in the rain, to walk and play in the puddles, and simply be in the rain.

Biscuit doesn't like water. Immediately after stepping out from under the roof of the porch, I clutched my arms together and shrunk a bit down - trying to avoid all contact with the rain. This was a natural reaction, and what I would normally do, but after I realized this shortly after, I adjusted my posture, and opened up to the rain. As you might expect, it was quite wet. And with the wind blowing and the rain falling and the sun having set, it was quite cold. It was amazing. I don't know how to describe the feeling and the situation without using the word orgasmic. I truly don't.

I was wearing my all-weather clogs, with holes in the top part of the shoe, so I was able to slosh through the fairly deep puddles of water that accumulated on the next-door neighbor’s sidewalk. It felt fantastic; the cool water sent shivers down my spine. I am positive that Biscuit didn’t enjoy our miniature adventure nearly as much as I did, and it was quite entertaining to watch him on the trek back towards the house. After he did his business, he stopped at no plants, no trees, and no spots to germinate and mark his territory.

Biscuit, I’m sorry that we returned home at a much slower pace than normal. I know you were uncomfortable, and I was selfish to resist going home. I mean, you’re only covered and kept warm by the hair on your back, which stays wet after you’re out in the rain.

There are things I left out. It is possible that I will edit this entry and add them. I usually say that I’ll post more later, but as it turns out, I never seem to. So, in all likelihood, I wont.

Go out and stand in the rain while you still can.
