"Doctor Who, Doctor/Author's Choice, Dark matter"
Rose can see something is wrong as the doctor stops talking mid sentence, she turns around to face him, only to find that he’s engrossed by the view on the TARDIS screen.
“Doctor..?” Rose asks, the concern evident in her voice. She’s feeling particularly worried, the doctor’s profile is suddenly harsh and tense, bent over, intently staring at the screen. Rose reaches out and places her hand lightly on his shoulder.
Slowly he turns around, his dark eyes, tinged with a touch of madness for just a second, then waves of anger, grief and pain flash through equally fast. “Rose,” he whispers, “Rose,” the despair and anguish in his voice unmistakable, “this is where they all died, this is where gallifrey burnt to pieces, the TARDIS is sensing the dark matter left over from the explosion.”
Rose reaches out to the doctor as he takes a step back, “you don’t understand,” he continues in the same strained haunted voice “it was all my fault.” Rose shakes her head and steps closer towards the resisting doctor, enveloping him in a forceful hug.
“You had no choice,” she whispers emphatically as the doctor continues to struggle, “listen to me, you had no choice.” He stops struggling and gives in, burying his face in her hair, eyes clenched tightly shut, trying to believe her. And for a moment he does.
