I hurt inside.
Grief is like a physical ache.
Inside your chest
Your heart really hurts.
A stab
Like a wound
Except there's no blood
To show to the world.
Grief is grief
Its your own pain
No one else sees it the same,
Grief hurts;
So unbearably,
Except with no wound;
You can't bleed to death
And find sweet release.

I've seen Serenity, and it possessed elements of interest, but I've never watched Firefly, largely because I never felt the need: My friend agilebrit was a HUGE Joss Whedon groupie and discussed that whole universe at length. (Odd, that a society so heavily influenced by China should have so few ethnic Chinese in it…)
I suppose I should do, but I'm NOT a Whedonoid, and I skated right off Buffy &c. because I found the writing, the self-consciously “hip” dialogue particularly, to be very annoying - and I saw enough of that in Serenity to know that he hadn't changed. But I did like the movie.
[Kicking the Reavers so they run after you is an excellent idea, IF you know you're running into an Alliance welcoming committee; suddenly the welcome have worse problems than YOU!
“… FIRE! All ships, all weapons! Hit 'em!”]
Firefly is available on DVD; if you recommend it, I may pick it up, but I have no idea when I'd watch it: I have DVDs here I haven't even opened yet, still in their shrinkwrap.
Edit: It makes an interesting variant on the old idea,

It's simple, really: If you think mysterious government Men in Black are cruising your neighborhood in unmarked vehicles, call police emergency and tell 'em you saw these guys with “army guns” driving around. I PROMISE YOU the next hour will be highly entertaining!
(Or not; such agents could not possibly fail to be monitoring police radio frequencies, and they'd just fade away - and that trick only works once. It's also possible to do what I once hashed out for a story idea: A paranoid with just enough shrewd to be dangerous rigged up certain pyrotechnics around his house for a “burglar alarm,” and when the bad guys started quietly breaking in they kicked off the pre-programmed “1812 Overture as Performed by Automatic Weapons,” it sounded like a massive drug-lord firefight, and yah, minutes later it was raining cops.)

If you can get hold of it (and I suppose as a discontinued show it may be cheap), watch it because the later episodes become really interesting. By watching Serenity; you kind of already know the ending I suppose. But some of the characters in that show were very likeable. And the episodes showed a lot of variety. It was quality sci-fi in my opinion. But anything you watch too critically will suffer.
