And the hits just keep on comin'
One of my coworkers, L, got into a car accident this morning. She's fine, fortunately.
Not so fortunately, she has no car insurance. She couldn't pay her bill, so her insurance was cancelled. She also doesn't own her car - her mother bought it for her, and she's been paying her mother back. (By the way, L is in her 40's, a single mother with 2 teenagers.). She also has debt collecters hounding her, and I think one of those payday loan places has been calling.
To top it all off, yesterday she had to go to the DMV to get new license plates, since someone stole hers while she was at work last week.
Glimpses like this into other people's lives makes me realize that even though I have a lot of student loan debt and grumble about how I can't afford to buy a house, I've got it pretty damn good.
