A Dusty Pin-Cushion

We both took advantage of my husband's doctor, and got all the shots that we could get in a non-travel clinic (curiously, my doctor wouldn't give us any shots beyond tetanus). We are all set for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Menningitis, Tetanus, Diptheria, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis A, as well as the first in a series of Hepatitis B shots. We have perscriptions for antibiotics and antimalarials. Travel clinic prices and fees seem to range wildly and even though our doctor saved us about $400/ea. we'll still end up shelling out about $600/ea. for the remaining 3 immunizations. One of the most costly (Japanese Encephalitis) is in short supply, and some clinics threatened to not give it to us, which I suppose we'll fight if we have to.

We've been largely avoiding the issue of packing up our apartment and selling vehicles. I feel pressure to start now because in this bad economy it will be hard to sell the things I need to be rid of. It's not easy to start taking apart our life right now, and to resort to living among boxes with only half the furniture. As horrible as that sounds, the work isn't magically going to happen in the last week before we go, so we have to chip away at it. We went through our bookshelves, finally saying goodbye to a lot of texts left over from college. It's sad to get rid of, but we can't afford to store it all, and moving when we return will be a lot easier with less. Selling my car continues to be a bummer, because it seems I can only get laughably little for it when it's worth a lot to me. :( It's shocking how much useless stuff we have, gathering dust in the back of deep closets. I always enjoy the purging that's part of packing, but it's hard to start so far in advance.

We were fortunate to score on someone's cancellation with the tattoo artist, because we had let a lot of time pass without making an appointment. It's important that we're all healed up before a lot of the hustle starts, and we were very fortunate. We've also set ourselves up with an appointment to get taxes done the week after paperwork is supposed to be mailed, so we can benefit from our return, and have it off our chest.
