My surgery was successfully performed yesterday at noon. Basically what happened is my doctor found an enlarged ovarian cyst on my right ovary. They needed to remove it immediately due to its size. They performed a laparotomy to remove it (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laparotomy). It measured 20 cm across and filled with 500ccs of fluid/mucus. Since this was my fourth surgery removing a cyst from my right ovary they decided to take out my whole ovary and fallopian tube as well. But thankfully God gave me two! My doctor said my left ovary looked great. There was a lot of scar tissue from all my previous surgeries and my doctor removed that too. Because of all the scar tissue removed it's going to be a more painful recovery than I'm used to, although she said it should also be faster because they removed the ovary (less surface area to heal).
My doctor is currently planning on not letting me back to school for two weeks, but if I'm doing better before then they said I can call my doctor's office and they'll let me go earlier. I'm going to be on some restrictions when I get back and I plan on discontinuing all extracurriculars until I can catch up with school work.
I'm going to be in the hospital at least another night. Thankfully I have had no complications and am on my way to making a speedy recovery.
