As good as it gets

Went to the N.E.R.D. concert at House of Blues last night with lordbyron228 and quirky2880. Got the tickets through Craigslist.org from someone in lovely Orange County, California. Caaaaaaaaaaalifornia. Killer Caaaaaaaaaaali (n. Phantom Planet.

First act was High Speed Scene a very stereotypical punk-pop band from L.A. The singer was a complete douche and seemed to have been practicing being a cliched rock star in front of the mirror for too long. He had all the cheesy gimmicks down including the following:
*Cheap pops in mentioning Orlando far too many times for applause.
*The "Rock Stare" (n. Dirty Jim
*And trying to get people excited that he was drinking a beer on stage.
They did about 6 songs and that was plenty.

Second act was Spymob who are from Minneapolis. Great four piece band with the lead singer on keyboards. Songs were arranged beautifully and though I haven't heard their studio releases before, I think that they are one of the great bands that sounds equally good live. The only thing that I hope is that the studio recordings don't sound overproduced. Really enjoyed their set and looking at getting the cd soon.

And finally N.E.R.D. came on with Spymob as their live band. Chad was missing, but I have heard that he doesn't perform at the live shows in front of everyone, which is cool. Show was amazing with everyone really putting their hearts into it as fans and on stage. I can't explain how good of a concert this was, but every song was amazing and the performances were better. About 1/3 of the way through in the middle of Bobby James, Justin Timberlake came on stage to sing backup. Backup soon turned into him singing along with Pharrell for the rest of the set. The two of them together onstage was amazing and I've got more respect for Timberlake as a performer after seeing how well he hit the high notes live. Lots of beatboxing throughout the show with Shay joining in a couple of times. Cameron Diaz was standing stage right the entire time dancing and singing along to just about every word, which was cool to have these extra celeb sightings. Great, great, great show.

If Justin put out a real soulful r&b album sometime down the road, I think it could be remarkable. Not enough down and dirty Teddy P. or Ron Isley style soul music being made these days.

Star Trak has recently signed Snoop to the label as was annoucned last night at the shouw.

If you haven't heard Curtis Mayfield's "Pusherman" please for the love of god get a listen soon.

PLS...
