A Short Introduction To Defiance

Beauty
escapes
and then we suppose
that there is freedom
in what we do
and who we are,

but chains remain
as some
hold on to their misery
as if they were
lovers
(An exhortation
for Understanding
breaks lucidity
into pieces
brings us back
to where we were
before)

Yet there are some
who tear the pages out
who dance illogically
and paint wildly
off of their canvas
and onto this world
of chaos and disarray
(soldiers of meaning
marching through misery
and these streets
defiant and determined
to bring something
of worth
to the end)

there is hope
in the few
to bring us out
of what we have done
this apathy
for ignorance and malevolence
this abhorrent indifference
to the suffering
of strangers
that we have tainted
with our fears

progress
may be illusory
and meaning
may be a whore
but we will not
be stripped
of hope
or breath
despite being surrounded
by fools and aberrations
we will assiduously refuse
to be reticent
We will not
drown
in this decay
(some day
the lonely
will lift us up)
