Writing as a tool to explore fantasies

Prompted by a discussion on the SGCdarkfic list....

This has probably been discussed before ad nauseum, but since I rarely get to read anything--online or otherwise--these days, please bear with me.

...that discussion on the darkfic list has really made me realize how NOT dark anything I've ever written is.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. I thought "Descent" was fairly dark, but when I look at some of the other fic in the archive and fic on some people's personal websites, I have to admit that I'm pretty tame in comparison.

There's no real incentive to check out a fic that will only be marginally what they want to read.

I both agree and disagree with you there. There are a lot of people who read fic that only fits into their specific wants (like S/J romance with or without smut and a happy ending), but there are also quite a few of us who read writers, not fic. I mean, I do prefer reading fic that combines my favorite characters with story types that I am interested in (OT3 or OT4 apocafic is probably my favorite), but I will read outside of my preferred fandom or even fandoms I know nothing about if the author is someone I really like. You should definitely write your fic the way *you* want to write it. Please yourself first.

I can't wait to read your OT3! Will you be posting it to Gateship? I wish I could keep up with my flist on LJ, but right now just reading my mail and responding to replies is more than I can fit in, so I usually find out about fic quicker on groups than through LJ.

I really do have to put a lot more thought into motivations and personalities and which one is the peacemaker, which one is most likely to start a fight, which one has the highest sex drive, etc...

Yes, I guess the way they relate and interact would be different in a threesome relationship than if it were simply a pairing. It would be nice to have someone to ask about that kind of thing for research, huh?

From a totally personal standpoint I find writing S/D the easiest of the three

Holy CRAP! Are you sure we aren't clones? I could have written that. Our opinions are *exactly* alike. *squashes* I have found my soulmate! :-)

I've been dying to talk OT3 with anyone lately. ;)

It's been my favorite subject for the past few months. It even slips out at home a little. Last week the hubby quirked an eyebrow at me and asked if he should be worried about me bringing home another guy for a threesome. I told him that I'm much more adventuresome in my mind than I ever will be in real life. *g*

I haven't really moved on, it's more like I've expanded my circle.

That pretty well describes my reading habits, too. I'm hoping it will describe my writing habits soon, as well.

Ahh, I'm back again. :D

Oh, absolutely. Well, ok, I don't always write completely for myself, but I don't post unless I'm satisfied with the results. I guess I'm prolific enough that I don't feel everything I write needs to come from my soul. God... I hope some of that isn't coming from my soul. :p

Er, anyway. I do have people who read my stuff no matter what, and I do that myself as a reader as well. There's authors who I just trust no matter what. I put myself in their hands and feel fine doing that. I tend to waver a bit while writing because I have both slash and het fans on my flist. The slash fans are still skeptical of me although they seem to like the team stuff I do. When I first started the OT3, I thought both the het and the slash pals would like it. I'm not really sure it's ending up that way, but really, I don't mind. I'm just so in love with the story that I don't care.

Er, which means I should pimp myself now.

More Than We Are

I typed that out from memory so I hope it's correct. I won't post it to Gateship as a story, but maybe when it's completely finished, I'll post the link. It's the AU team from Moebius, so it's Dorkverse. You should know that before going in, just in case you haven't seen it yet.

Yay! *smooches you* :)

When I was reading your original post, I thought we were very close in opinion on this topic. That makes me happy and excited to read more fic from you. Plus, it makes me feel like writing some rather self-indulgent OT3 fic where no slash is involved and it's closer to canon.

Last week the hubby quirked an eyebrow at me and asked if he should be worried about me bringing home another guy for a threesome. I told him that I'm much more adventuresome in my mind than I ever will be in real life. *g*

LOL! Interestingly enough, my husband gets all snotty about my little crush on Daniel, but has no problem with my little crush on Jack. I have no idea why.

Anyway, I really hope you have more fic coming soon. I've been dying to read more from you since Descent, which was absolutely stunning.

I'd love to talk OT3 with you anytime! :)
