Characters/Pairings: Buffy/Spike; Drusilla
Rating: G
Word count: 500
Summary: During 'Crush' Spike does things differently but will that actually make a difference?
Disclaimer: Own? I own nothing!

Drusilla fell to the ground, unconscious, and the second zap Buffy had seen coming never really came. She looked up, shocked, at Spike’s confused face.

“Go.”  his eyes were glued to his sire.

“I-“ she wasn’t entirely sure what she would’ve said even if he hadn’t interrupted.

“I said go!” his voice sounded like it was about to crack and shatter into a million pieces and only served to confuse her more. “I’ll… take care of her. She won’t come here again. Just… go.”

Buffy got to her feet, frowning at how unstable she felt, her eyes darted toward the door before going back to the vampire who wouldn’t look at her.

“Why?” she didn’t know what she was asking about but was convinced that any sort of information would be better than the absolute confusion she was feeling.

Spike gave a sharp, humorless laugh and finally moved his gaze to her. She wished he hadn’t. For her, there had always been something disturbing in Spike’s eyes. Maybe it was simply the fact that there was something there instead of the emptiness and coldness she should’ve seen.

“If you’re so desperate to finish us both off, what you waiting for, Slayer?” somehow his glare radiated heat rather than coldness. “If not, I don’t see any reason for you to entertain me with your company.”

“No. But why did you…” she looked at Drusilla’s unmoving form.

“’Cause I want you, not her.” he moved faster than she could ever remember him moving and then, for a few seconds which she used to take in huge amounts of air, he was hidden from her in the shadows. “’Cause I need you, not her. And because…”

And just as fast he was back in from of her, making her gasp and take a step backwards without meaning to. His eyes were boring into her soul and she could tell that he was looking for something. She could stop him. Stop him from saying it like she had earlier. He was giving her an opening and she didn’t have time to wonder why, she was too horrified by the realization that she wouldn’t take it. Some sick part of her needed the words out, where she could fight them, deny them, punch them right out of his mouth.

“I love you.” he stared at her and she didn’t know if he expected a kiss, a slap or a stake. He didn’t expect her to run. She didn’t expect herself to run. Hell, if Drusilla had been awake she probably wouldn’t have expected her to run. But Buffy ran anyway. Ran all the way home. And as she slammed the door behind herself, the fact that he couldn’t  follow her in didn’t make her feel any better. Because she had been wrong. She couldn’t fight the words once they were out, because they didn’t turn into the horrible monster she had imagined slaying.

No, he might be locked out but the words followed her in.

Title: Two Out of Three
Characters/Pairings: Buffy/Spike
Rating: G
Word count: 500
Summary: Post-As You Were. Buffy hears a song at the Bronze that changes a lot, if not everything.
Disclaimer: Own? I own nothing!

She had no idea what she was doing in the Bronze. Being here by herself felt wrong. Without Xander and Anya or Willow and Tara, or… Buffy shook her head. She was gonna go. Once she got up though a familiar song started. She frowned. It was one of these moments when the lyrics have yet to start and you know you know the song but can’t seem to place it and are desperate to do so before you hear the first words.

A warm hand grabbed her arm and soon a more than a little drunk college boy was clumsily pulling her toward the dance floor. At first Buffy was simply shocked. By the contact and by the guy’s nerve. She was about to pull herself out of his arms and shove him away with a bit of Slayer strength when the lyrics started.

Baby we can talk all night
But that ain't gettin us nowhere
I told you everything I possibly can

Oh. Suddenly the guy in front of her was gone, the dance floor was gone, the whole Bronze disappeared until it was just her and the music. She knew that song.

I'll never be able to give you something
Something that I just haven't got

If anyone accused her of such a thing, Buffy would absolutely deny choosing a song for each of her relationships. She tried not to admit it even to herself since The Dresden Dolls’ Coin-operated Boy had cut too close to home during her relationship with Riley. But even she got tired of swimming in the Nile after too long. And the truth was that a song appropriate for what she had with Spike had kept escaping her, until a month ago, when she had heard the song that was filling her whole being now. She remembered concentrating on the beginning of the chorus as if trying to imprint it on her heart.

I want you, I need you
But there ain’t no way I’m ever gonna love you

But right now she felt like she couldn’t escape the words that followed.

Now don’t be sad
‘Cause two out of three ain’t bad

Two out of three ain’t bad. Suddenly the guy in front of her hit the floor with more than a bit of Slayer strength.

Spike ran a hand down her arm. He was pretty convinced that he was a) dreaming b)drunk or c)dead and by some mistake in Heaven.

He looked out through Buffy’s window, such a weird thing to do after looking at it from the outside for so long. Sunrise was in less than an hour.

“Want me to go, pet?” he whispered in her ear.

He took a deep breath, preparing himself. But Buffy appeared to be half asleep already and just turned over, successfully trapping him in the bed with her own body.

“Stay.” she murmured without opening her eyes and so quietly he almost didn’t understand. “We might make it three out of three.”
