Spike/Cordy header and fo banners for xfirefly9x (because there won't be a day when I'll be able to resist making something of those two) and a Xander/Willow fic for virtual_toast (because I wanted to write you one so much but I had no idea how when I've never shipped or read or wrote them but then the muse hit and I'm really hoping you like it. :) Oh, and I managed to include just a little Buffy and Spike too. :D).

Surprises
Xander/Willow
Xander surprised Willow when he took off once Sunnydale was a big hole in the ground. She had never been away from him for so long. It felt like a part of her was missing. Her right arm, her eyes or maybe her heart…
Xander surprised Willow with his letters. She had always appreciated his much needed humor, his snarky remarks, his fake dump comments and his smart ideas. The box she collected the letters in was, for her, a jewelry box, full of her most precious things. Some of them she let Buffy and the others see and read, some she kept to herself and some she kept re-reading even years later.
Xander surprised Willow when he came back. She had always known he will but at the same time each moment that passed had made her expect him less and ache more. So when he appeared on one of the very few and heavy with some sort of bitterness Scooby meetings(because what kind of Scooby meetings were they when there were almost no Scoobies left?) she didn’t know if it felt too soon or too late, maybe it felt just right, but it was a surprise. A very good one.
Xander surprised Willow when he kissed her for the first time. She likes to think of it as the first time since all the kisses in Sunnydale are tainted with betrayal and thoughtlessness. So when he kissed her for the first time, on New Year’s Eve at that, it meant what she had always wanted it to mean. Need and trust and tenderness and love. But most of all, a new beginning.
Xander surprised Willow when he grew up. He had been doing so for years now but the night when they were all gathered together in Buffy’s(much like they have been when Xander himself had found his way home) and Spike appeared on the doorway she truly saw it and it brought such beautiful peace to her heart. To this day she claims that she had been scared they will kill each other instead of start down the road of the friendship that they often claimed saved them from the ever increasing amount of female Scoobies but the truth, that she admits only to herself and very rarely so because even she deserves to take a dive into the Nile once in a while, is that she had been scared of the memories that Spike would’ve brought - of a final battle and lost love and lost chances.. As it turned out Spike and Buffy had every intention of making brand new memories and Xander had made peace with his own.
Xander surprised Willow when he asked her to marry him. It was what she had dreamed about all through high school but it was one of those dreams that you never expected to come true. It was also one of those dreams where the reality turns out to be so much better. because every girl dreams of her white wedding but she got a white wedding indeed. In the falling snow Xander claims that she had looked like an angel and she still doesn’t know what actually surprised her more on the happy day. The fact that it went smoothly, the fact that Xander had the strength to joke about having an escape road just in case, the fact that Spike was his best man and Angel was indeed invited or the fact that she had managed to make Buffy wear a dress so hideous that Anya would’ve been proud(that is, after she beat her to death or congratulated her for tying down the one that run away on her).
Xander surprised Willow when he went and bought them a house without even asking her about it or showing it to her until it was absolutely ready. But maybe what surprised her more was that it was absolutely perfect. And she actually felt guilt eating at her for all the yelling she had delivered. But then again, as Xander said, a day on which she threw objects with her hands at him instead of making them fly on their own was a good day.
Xander had surprised Willow her whole life and she was sure that he had a lot more surprises up his sleeve for the future that awaited them. It was on top of the list of reasons why she loved him. Right next to the one that said “because he’s my best friend”.
