This is great. Very sad, but very true to the characters.

This is just wonderful, Evangelin! Thank you so, so much. I love the way you've shown Illyria's viewpoint as well as Spike's, and revealed that the situation has exhausted both of them.

She had always known how weak a human body is but she finally realized how strong a human spirit is.

So true, and I think that Whedon wasted a very powerful story by wiping Fred out of existence when he could have allowed her to live and to confront Illyria. It's still my hope that one of the Dark Horse writers will bring her back and let these two vibrant characters get to know each other fully.

The sun had finally risen and it didn’t burn, it made him warm.

*hugs you*

It was so kind of you to write this fic. I know it goes against the pairing you love, and so it was bound to be difficult to compose! But it's so hard to find Spike/Fred fics anywhere, and to receive one from a writer who does romance so well...what a treasure. (My birthday was January 14th, and this was a lovely gift!)

Thank you so much, I'm so happy you liked it! :)

Absolutely! I always thought that Fred would've been able to fight Illyria, show that it's not all about physical strength.

I'm a sucker for good last sentences. :D That one seems to be understood in a rather dramatic way while I did mean that Fred was his sunshine but I love how readers see things from different povs.

Thank you so much for the compliment! And not at all actually, it was a pleasure writing this even if it took my muse some time. While I cannot read anything but Spuffy and Spillow, I've found that I love writing all sorts of pairings and this ficlet made me want to explore Fred/Spike more often, if time will let me.

I'm so glad it came as a birthday present even if it was too late for Christmas. *hugs*
